President Trump Announces Historic North Korea Meeting to Take Place in Singapore

President Trump just made it official!

The historic meeting between the President of the United States and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will take place on June 12th in Singapore. Trump just made the announcement on Twitter:

This is great news! Peace talks between the Korean dictator and the President are a good thing. Let’s hope Trump is able to achieve a deal that ensures full denuclearization.

We reported before that Singapore was the rumored location for the meet-up. Now, it has been confirmed.

All of this comes just after Trump welcomed home three American prisoners being held in Korea. Early this morning, Trump greeted the free men on a tarmac:

The negotiations that secured the release of these prisoners were just the beginning. Now begins the hard work of trying to convince the North Korean leader to ditch his plans for nuclear weapons and to normalize his country by bringing it into the 21st century.

President Trump is the ultimate dealmaker. But the stakes are really, really high when it comes to dealing with a madman like Jong-un. But as Jonathan Swan reports, Trump has a trick up his sleeve:

“Unpredictability” is the key to understanding President Trump’s negotiating plan as he heads into his roll-the-dice summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un.

What we’re hearing: Trump loves to say that every other U.S. president was predictable. He believes foreign affairs has always been overly scripted and his predecessors were “totally predictable,” which let their adversaries run rings around them.

A source who recently spoke to Trump about his upcoming meeting with Kim Jong-un paraphrased the president’s private monologue:

  • “No one knows what I’m going to do. They are over there trying right now to analyze every statement I’m putting out to get a sense of what’s going to happen when I walk into the room. But the fact of the matter is nobody knows.” 

We should all hope Trump emerged from the negotiations victorious. The world will be a better place for it.
