Kelly Clarkson Reveals Why She Still Isn’t Ready To Find Love Again After Bitter Divorce

Kelly Clarkson

The singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson got some great news in March of 2022 when her years-long bitter divorce battle from her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock was finally finalized. Though it’s been nearly two years since then, however, Clarkson is still not ready to find romance again anytime soon.

Clarkson Isn’t Looking For Love

While recently interviewing the former “Beverly Hills, 90210” actress Shannen Doherty, who is currently both going through a divorce and battling cancer simultaneously, Clarkson confirmed that she’s not ready to find love again yet.

“I think I need a little more work on me in a relationship to make sure I take care of myself at the same time as somebody else,” Clarkson said, adding that divorce is “hard” because “you thought you were going to spend forever with this person.”

That being said, the 41 year-old “Since You Been Gone” singer is proud that she is “still in the stage of really enjoying me.”

When Doherty, 52, said that her dogs are giving her comfort throughout her divorce process, Clarkson was quick to agree, though she added that her pets previously were not allowed in her bed when she was still married “cause it’s for fun… that kinda fun.”

“But ever since I’ve been separated now divorced, my dogs have been ruling my bed. I think they would hate the next person who came in,” Clarkson added.

Clarkson’s Divorce

During an Instagram Live chat back in September, Clarkson discussed her current relationship status with fans.

“Do I have a boyfriend? No! And not looking,” Clarkson assured. “You know why? I love being single. I have two kids, two dogs, three rabbits, a hamster, multiple jobs — there’s a lot going on.”

People Magazine reported that Clarkson and Blackstock became engaged in 2012 and married the next year. They went on to welcome daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 7, before announcing their split in 2020.

“What I am dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart. It involves a lot of little hearts,” Clarkson said at the time, according to US Weekly, adding that “divorce is never easy. We’re both from divorced families, so we know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts.”

Clarkson Blames ‘Ego’ For Her Staying In Her Marriage

While appearing on the “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast back in June, Clarkson said that “ego” was one of the reasons that she stayed in her marriage as long as she did.

“I’m like, ‘I can do this. I can handle so much.’ My ego is like, ‘I can control my actions. I can control my reactions. I can do this and I can reach this person and I can get through,'” she said. “It becomes a little bit of your ego that gets in the way.”

Clarkson went on to say that she finds her new relationship status to be “freeing.”

“Sometimes it’s nice just to be alone and just in your own world and experiencing your own bliss,” she said.

Divorce is never easy, particularly when there are children involved. While we hope that Clarkson does find love someday, we can certainly understand why she’s happy being single right now!
