DNC Deputy Chair Keith Ellison is finally garnering detractors on the Left as abuse allegations against him continue to mount.
The allegations came from Austin Monahan, whose mother Karen Monahan was an alleged victim of Ellison’s abuse. Austin posted online that his mother had “come out of pure hell after getting out of her relationship” with Ellison. Austin said he discovered the abuse when discovering archived text messages and images accidentally while using his mother’s computer.
Karen says the allegations her son made public are true.

In a separate statement, she detailed the specific allegations of abuse, which included both verbal and physical abuse:
Karen Monahan released her own lengthy statement regarding the reported abuse she experienced. There are numerous pictures of Ellison and Karen together on Twitter that confirm their relationship.
Ellison personally denied the allegations, and that there’s no video evidence of his abuse. When asked what he’d say to Karen, Ellison said “I’d say, ‘Look, we loved each other, we don’t have to destroy each other.'” Destroy each other? Doesn’t that sound like a threat to you?
Despite the allegations of abuse, Ellison still won his primary on Tuesday in the running to become Minnesota’s nominee for attorney general. The same day, the DNC weighed in on the allegations with a generic response; that “These allegations recently came to light and we are reviewing them. All allegations of domestic abuse are disturbing and should be taken seriously.”
The DNC’s former communications director Luis Miranda said the response was inadequate. “The party has no choice but to suspend him at a minimum until they figure out what’s going on. Frankly, it would be malpractice not to. We’ve made it clear we’re going to take these accusations seriously, at a minimum. We set too high a standard not to take this seriously.”
Luis isn’t the only Democrat speaking out about the inadequacy of their own party in dealing with allegations against their own. Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign manager Robby Mook appeared on CNN today to make a similar complaint.
Host Kate Bolduan asked Mook whether or not he thinks Democrats should be campaigning alongside Ellison in light of the allegations, to which he replied “I think it’s still very early. I mean I think we need to let the process play out to look if this is true, and if it’s true, you know, I think he needs to be held accountable,” Mook said. “I don’t think people should be campaigning with him.”

Just last April, Ellison told a crowd at the Progressive Change Campaign Committee National Candidate Training forum that women were being harmed (and even dying) because Republicans were winning elections instead of Democrats.
