Colin Kaepernick is, without a doubt, the most controversial football player out there who doesn’t currently play football.
It was during last year’s football season the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback became a household name overnight when he refused to stand for the National Anthem, instead taking a knee in protest of racial injustice in America (specifically, police killings). It seemed that everyone and their mother had an opinion on the protest – including Kaepernick’s own, who greatly disapproved of it.
The man can’t get signed to a team, and while he cries racism, others disagree. For one, people overwhelmingly opposed the protest, with a Reuters poll showing that 72 percent of Americans said they thought Kaepernick’s behavior was unpatriotic. Heck, the man even got booed playing in San Francisco, which isn’t known for its conservative population. His protests “coincidentally” coincided with an 8 percent decline in the NFL’s Sunday night ratings. What team wants to bring on a mediocre player, especially one that comes with some guaranteed baggage?
Kaepernick found a new enemy in the president of the United States over the weekend. Here’s what Trump said on Friday night that ignited a firestorm: “Wouldn’t you love one of these NFL owners… when someone disrespects our flag say, ‘Get that son of a b**** off the field, right now, out, he’s fired’?” Trump also claimed that he’s the reason Kaepernick is a free agent – because the NFL’s coaches wouldn’t want to have to deal with a tweet from Trump in response. In all fairness, that’s probably some “truthful hyperbole” (a term coined by Trump himself in “The Art of the Deal”).

On Sunday hundreds of players took the knee (or weren’t present on the field at all during the singing of the National Anthem).
But we didn’t get word from the unemployed Kaepernick, until now. TMZ Sports reports: “Colin Kaepernick doesn’t seem to be phased by President Trump calling him a ‘son of a bitch’ — he surfaced in NYC on Monday on his way to the gym … and he looks ready to play. Kaepernick smiled when asked how he felt about the scores of NFL players who took a knee on Sunday following the national anthem protest he started last year — but the smile faded when he was asked about Trump’s newest comments.”
His smile may have faded, but Kaepernick refused to answer any questions from the reporter.

I expected Kaepernick to say something – anything – about the recent controversy. I’m surprised he didn’t gloat, or say something disparaging about the president.
As someone so outspoken, it makes you wonder what Kaepernick is thinking here. Does he have a deal in the works and that’s why he’s keeping his mouth shut?
What do you think? Why did Kaepernick stay silent on President Trump? Tell us your thoughts below!
