Virginia Republican state senate candidate Tina Ramirez publicly shamed left-wing journalist David Leavitt after he claimed he reported her to Child Protective Services (CPS) over a Columbus Day tweet.

Yes, you read that correctly. That’s where your society is now.

The controversy began when Ramirez posted a relatively mundane tweet on Columbus Day suggesting she’d teach her daughter the truth about the famed explorer and history in general.

“I teach my daughter real American history. I refuse to join the radical left’s campaign to erase history,” she wrote.

Leavitt, clearly triggered by that notion, responded: “Why are you celebrating torture, rape, murder, and enslavement?”

‘Journalist’ Calls CPS Over Columbus Day Tweet

David Leavitt, who describes himself as an “award-winning multimedia journalist,” responded to Tina Ramirez’s tweet by turning into an award-winning jackass.

Initially, he urged his followers to call CPS on Ramirez for allegedly “teaching her child to be a racist.”

When that didn’t satisfy him, Leavitt claims he called CPS himself and posted screenshots of the ‘unacceptable’ hold time he was forced to endure in trying to file the false report.

“Mighty bold and liberal of you to lecture a Hispanic mother with a black daughter on racism,” Ramirez said in response to his call for Twitter users to report her.

Leavitt replied, “The lady who’s teaching her kids how to be racist thinks I’m ‘bold.’ Does she know I’m [on] hold to report her to child and family services?”

“Having a black child doesn’t make you any less racist,” he later added.

Leavitt’s desperate pleas for attention were obvious.

Tina Ramirez Fires Back

Ramirez issued a statement to Fox News excoriating the journalist for his call to CPS over a Columbus Day tweet.

“This so-called ‘journalist’ obviously doesn’t understand who he picked a fight with,” Ramirez said. “I’m a mother, first and foremost, and my Mama Bear instincts kick in when it comes to defending my daughter and how she is raised.”

“I also stand up to tyrants around the world in defense of human rights, liberties, and dignity as my day job,” she continued.

“So, I won’t be bullied or silenced by some unhinged leftist trying to censor strong conservatives with the same tactics we see dictators use around the world.”

In an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime, Ramirez indicated she had been in touch with the Virginia Attorney General and was given assurances nothing would come of the frivolous complaint to CPS.

What’s amusing is that CPS allows call-in complaints to be made anonymously, but Leavitt chose to very publicly show that he was the one filing a baseless report.

Virginia law states that anyone “knowingly making false reports” as Leavitt appears to have done “shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.”

This isn’t the first time Leavitt has been embroiled in controversy for making a ludicrous complaint.

Two years ago he called the police because a manager at Target refused to sell him a $90 toothbrush that had been mislabeled as costing $0.01.

He posted a picture of the young woman working for Target in an attempt to humiliate her, then admitted to calling the police.
