The radically liberal late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel had a field day on Thursday night over the fact that former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin had tested positive for COVID-19.

He went so far as to claim that “these people,” undoubtedly meaning conservatives, “only believe in science when it happens to them.”

Kimmel Mocks Palin

“You know who tested positive for COVID? Our old lipstick on a pit bull herself Sarah Palin announced that she and her two of her kids contracted the virus,” Kimmel said during his opening monologue before mocking Palin by saying that you “almost have to try to catch COVID in Alaska.”

“It’s easier to catch a bald eagle than COVID in Alaska,” he said, before targeting Palin for pleading with people to wear a mask, which he described as “rich.”

“At the beginning of this back in May, she traveled all the way to Texas to visit a beauty salon to support the owner of that salon who went to jail because she refused to shut her business down,” Kimmel said, referring to a visit Palin made to  Salon Á la Mode.

Kimmel Doubles Down

“She said it was her constitutional right to endanger her community,” he added. “But now that Sarah has herself been bitten by the bug she changed her tune. I love these people who only believe in science when it happens to them.”

Kimmel concluded that these types of people “only acknowledge COVID is real” after they contract it, adding, “It’s like saying, ‘Now that I have been mauled by a bear personally, I realize that their claws and teeth are very sharp.’ But good for her for speaking out finally.”

Palin Discusses COVID Diagnosis

This came after Palin opened up about her diagnosis with COVID-19 to People Magazine, saying that it started when “one of my daughters awoke to having lost her sense of taste and smell [and] immediately had a positive COVID test, then was quarantined in isolation.”

“I then observed symptoms in my son Trig, who curiously is the most enthusiastic mask-wearer, and after our numerous negative tests over the year, he tested positive,” Palin said.

“Children with special needs are vulnerable to COVID ramifications [Trig was born with Down syndrome], so with a high fever he was prescribed azithromycin, which really seemed to help, and I increased amounts of vitamins I put in his puréed food,” she added.

Palin went on to say that she noticed that she had some of the “bizarre” symptoms characteristic of the virus, like a loss of taste and smell, leading her to assume it was “unmistakable COVID caught me.”

“That day I finally tested positive — like millions of other Americans,” she said.

After saying that the coronavirus can “really knock you down,” she encouraged others to continue being cautious during this pandemic.

Palin Urges Americans To ‘Be Vigilant’

“I strongly encourage everyone to use common sense to avoid spreading this and every other virus out there,” she said.

“There are more viruses than there are stars in the sky, meaning we’ll never avoid every source of illness or danger … But please be vigilant, don’t be frightened, and I advise reprioritizing some personal time and resources to ensure as healthy a lifestyle as you can create so when viruses do hit, you have at least some armor to fight it,” Palin concluded.
