Jimmy Kimmel Disappointed in Chuck Schumer Over Shutdown

Jimmy Kimmel Chuck Schumer

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel kissed his conservative audience goodbye last year when he began publicly stumping for Obamacare and rallying for gun control.

While he spoke passionately, it also sounded like he was rattling off Democrat talking points, because he was. In fact, before the Senate was set to vote on an Obamacare repeal and replace measure last summer, Kimmel consulted with Senator Chuck Schumer’s office for talking points. The two had reportedly been in contact for months prior.

It’s already bad enough that every late-night host shares the same political bias – now they’re literally being fed Democrat talking points?

But now there’s trouble in paradise after Democrats caved and voted with Republicans to end the government shutdown. Kimmel is blaming Schumer for “caving” to Republican pressure. According to the Daily Beast,

Kimmel stated in his opening monologue Monday night, “Democrats and Republicans reached a deal, kind of a deal, to reopen the government for, well, for at least three weeks. They agreed, the Democrats, to fund the government through February 8th in exchange for a promise from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that they would have a debate and a vote on DACA. In other words, for nothing.”

As the host joked, Schumer thought he made a deal with President Trump at the White House on Friday, “but then the president’s team came in and said, ‘No, no, no, bad boy, go back to bed and eat a cheeseburger,’ and the deal was off.”

Kimmel also lashed out at Trump for his almost complete absence from the negotiations over the weekend. “It’s funny, he always claimed to be the best negotiator,” he said. “This was his big selling point, ‘I’m the dealmaker.’ At this point it seems pretty clear he couldn’t even negotiate 20 percent off at Bed, Bath & Beyond with the coupon.”

Personally I’m a bit confused as to why he’d fault Trump’s absence here, when he didn’t need to be present for Democrats to cave “in other words, for nothing.”
