President Donald Trump has found a target in California Governor Jerry Brown, who has since turned his State into a “Sanctuary State” in an attempt to thwart the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
California bears a larger share of the costs of illegal immigration than any other State – costing their taxpayers $23 billion a year. Brown is clearly more concerned with thwarting Trump than representing the interests of the taxpayers in his State.
While the two have traded insults int he past, Trump again lashed out at Brown today, complaining that he’s preventing Trump from sending troops from the National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border. “Looks like Jerry Brown and California are not looking for safety and security along their very porous Border,” the president tweeted. “He cannot come to terms for the National Guard to patrol and protect the Border. The high crime rate will only get higher. Much wanted Wall in San Diego already started!” Trump tweeted.

According to the Daily Mail:
Brown offered last week to accept 400 troops, but insisted that they couldn’t perform any duty that was part of border-control enforcement – a list that includes vehicle maintenance, radio communications, buying gasoline, handling payroll and clerical work.
Trump had praised Jerry Brown, but that was before the governor set limits that would prohibit his Guard detachment from doing anything tied to border control.
The other border-state governors – all Republicans – have openly embraced Trump’s plans. Brown hasn’t explicitly outlined how he would distinguish between immigration-related work and going after criminal gangs and drug and gun smugglers.
So far, Attorney General Jeff Sessions has sued the state of California over three statutes that support cities and counties that refuse to hand over illegal immigrants to federal immigration authorities for prosecution or deportation.
What exactly is the point of having the National Guard at the border, if we’re not going to let them act as a national guard?
Governor Brown is putting the safety of his population at risk by refusing to accept help the National Guard. Unfortunately, Brown has shown that he is more concerned with protecting his state’s sanctuary status than he is with protecting his own citizens.
