The cold war between President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions just reached a new level of intensity today.
This morning, President Trump minced no words in expressing his dissatisfaction with the AG. He tweeted out the following:
Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!

Wow. Talk about harsh.
President Trump is clearly still upset that Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation and hasn’t devoted enough time looking into the Obama Administration’s shenanigans regarding spying on the Trump campaign.
Now, Sessions is firing back:
BREAKING NEWS: Sessions says he’ll do his job with ‘integrity and honor’ after Trump criticism https://t.co/wz67oiOQMZ pic.twitter.com/v7sV4ip2e1

Via Politico:
Jeff Sessions said Wednesday he would do his job with “integrity and honor,” apparently defending himself after President Donald Trump called it “disgraceful” that the attorney general had asked an internal watchdog to investigate Republicans’ claims of inappropriate behavior by FBI agents.
This is all so sad to see. Jeff Sessions was the first sitting member of Congress to endorse Donald Trump for president. He stumped for Trump when no other politician in D.C. would. He put his professional career on the line for Trump when it was precarious to do so.
That’s because then-Senator Sessions believed in Trump’s vision of America: a country that puts its own citizens first, and doesn’t sell them out to globalist financiers and foreigners.
Brit Hume of Fox News weighed in on the fight over Twitter with this pointed analysis:
This is Trump at his worst. He is asking that the DOJ investigate itself. The inspector general, who has his own staff of lawyers and investigators, at least enjoys a measure of independence from the department. Trump still wants the AG to act his political goalie. https://t.co/KhAZ4VDmIz
