Cheers Actor Jay Thomas Dead at 69

Beloved actor Jay Thomas has died at the age of 69. The two-time Emmy winner reportedly died of cancer.

Thomas’s Emmy awards comes from his role as TV host Jerry Gold on CBS’ “Murphy Brown.” But he’s also well-known for his role as Eddie LeBec, a Boston Bruins goalie, on “Cheers.” He also appeared frequently on the David Letterman show during the Christmas season.

Thomas was famous for playing obnoxious, sleezy roles in many shows. That made him memorable with fans.

Jay Thomas, the good-natured comic actor who starred on the sitcoms Murphy Brown and Cheers, has died. He was 69.

Don Buchwald, his longtime agent and friend, reported his death, after a battle with cancer, to The New York Daily News. His publicist, Tom Estey, would not divulge when or where Thomas died when contacted by The Hollywood Reporter.
