Last week, one of America’s largest retailers, Nordstrom, made the stunning decision to drop Ivanka Trump’s clothing line from its stores, citing declining sales as the reason to discontinue their relationship with the First Daughter’s brand.
At the time of the announcement, the department store claimed “We’ve got thousands of brands – more than 2,000 offered on the site alone. Reviewing their merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business. Each year we cut about 10 percent and refresh our assortment with about the same amount. In this case, based on the brand’s performance we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”
Nordstrom’s decision to drop Ivanka’s clothing line didn’t sit well with President Trump, who blasted the company’s decision:
My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!

While the retail giant claims declining sales as the sole reason to stop selling Ivanka’s clothing in its stores, one cannot discount the role a prominent liberal boycott of her products may have had on its performance at retail stores nationwide.
In October, liberals created the #GrabYourWallet campaign, aimed at targeting products related to both Ivanka and her father Donald. At the time of the initial boycott, Nordstom refused to participate, and in a statement, Nordstrom President Peter Nordstrom stood by his company’s decision to continue selling Ivanka’s clothing in its stores:
Every single brand we offer is evaluated on their results—if people don’t buy it, we won’t sell it.” And since the Ivanka Trump brand, he wrote, “has grown to be a sizable and successful business,” Nordstrom has concluded that it’s not worth jettisoning, even if some of its customers feel passionately that it should.
We think President Trump is right in saying Nordstrom treated his daughter unfairly, and hopefully they will reconsider their decision!
