In what could be a powerful sign of things to come, the influential House Freedom Caucus is forcing a vote this week on a resolution to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen over the agencies targeting of Tea Party organizations.

Outgoing Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana is expected to officially file a privileged motion Tuesday that is required before he can file the official impeachment document.

From Politico:

Conservatives have been trying to impeach the IRS chief for more than a year now. Each time they try, however, GOP leadership and more moderate members of the conference have convinced them to back down in return for other, less extreme action against Koskinen, such as a hearing.

This time, around, insiders say the vote will happen. Republican leaders and chairmen are unlikely to offer anymore concessions to try to get the Freedom Caucus to drop the issue.

Conservatives believe Koskinen lied to Congress about agents deleting sensitive emails pertaining to the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups, which exploded into the headlines in spring of 2013. Koskinen said he has told the truth.

Last time the House Freedom Caucus attempted to force an impeachment vote, establishment Republicans joined with Democrats to save the IRS Commissioner’s job, a move than angered conservatives and members of the Tea Party across the country!

However, some conservatives who are not members of the Freedom Caucus argue that it’s unfair to impeach Koskinen without a trial, but a vote on impeachment may occur before the end of the calendar year.
