North Carolina Republican Rep. Mark Meadows and House Freedom Caucus members will vote “no” on a short-term funding bill that would fund the government until Feb. 8, as funding is set to expire Friday, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.
“The president many months ago said he wouldn’t sign another funding bill unless we gave him wall funding. So what did this House do? It passed a bill to fund the Department of Defense and passed a short-term [continuing resolution] CR and said, ‘You know what? We’re going to have that fight, but we’re going to have that fight after the midterms.’ You know what, Mr. Speaker? It’s after the midterms. And we’re here to say that we’re ready to fight on behalf of all the freedom-loving Americans to make sure we have secure borders,” Meadows, chairman of the congressional caucus, told the TheDCNF Thursday.
“Mr. President, we’re going to back you up. If you veto this bill we’ll be there. But more importantly the American people will be there. They’ll be there to support you. Let’s build the wall and make sure that we do our job in Congress,” he continued.
Meadows and the conservative House Freedom Caucus will vote “no” on a funding bill as it does not include the $5 billion President Donald Trump and Republicans have been asking for. Other Republicans have reportedly said they are in favor of supporting the continuing resolution in order to avoid a government shutdown, saying they will work on funding after the holidays.
However, Meadows told TheDCNF Wednesday afternoon that he believes now is the “time to fight,” instead of accepting a bill that includes no wall funding.
“The bottom line is simple: it’s deeply irresponsible for this Congress to keep sending the president status quo funding bills, without any of his promises included, and essentially say ‘sign this, or shut down the government.’ The president doesn’t pass bills — that’s our job, and for Congress to surrender and accept defeat before the hard work even starts is wrong. The time to fight is now,” Meadows said to TheDCNF.
Funding for the government was set to expire Dec. 7. However, the House of Representatives passed a two-week resolution to avoid a government shutdown by unanimous consent in a voice vote, meaning members did not have to be present for the vote. The Senate, which is in session, then approved the bill, funding the government until Dec. 21.
If approved, the bill will fund the government until Feb. 8 and give both sides more time to work out their differences on the border wall. However, Democrats will maintain control of the House beginning Jan. 3.
Well hallelujah!! It is about time the republicans grew a pair of balls and are finally going to stand up for what the people want..The American people want the border wall built and they want it started right away not two or three years down the road from now..President Trump needs to build this wall anyway he can get the funding for it. If he sticks to his guns on the $5 billion dollars he had better make sure too this time around that continued funding for the border wall will be available to complete the border wall without this kind of trouble down the road..In the meantime any funding money President Trump can scrap up from other government entities along the way that will help out and work too. Rather than send $ billions of dollars to other countries that hate us and would just as soon cut our throats take that money and put it all towards the building of the wall. Bingo the border wall is going up and is all paid for and our problems on our southern border are near solved..The American people want to see our Congress bite the bullet on this project of building the border wall and give America a secure and safe border from Mexico and drugs and a constant flow of invading illegal immigrants. Once the border wall is up and finished the first full year that it is up it will pay for itself 4 times over as the United States yearly costs to taxpayers for illegals and etc. is near the 100 $ Billion dollar figure..Once the wall is up most of this expense will cease. However our Congress needs to revamp the immigration laws that favor our own citizens first over any illegal immigrants. No more free everything like they have been getting..we can not continue to be their cash cow any longer. If you are not a citizen of this country then you do not qualify for any kinds of financial aid to finance your being here illegally. It is high time that we Americans take care of our own above all others instead of making a habit of throwing our own under the bus all of the time to take care of foreigners who fall on hard times or foreigners that don’t like us but take our millions of dollars every year and laugh about how stupid we probably are. Like a lot of the Muslim countries we give out quite a bit to them and we probably shouldn’t do that at all..We give far too much of our countries wealth away every year that is why we are so deeply in debt and struggling ourselves. We have to quit trying to police and feed the world mostly on our dime.. How many times have you heard of China or Russia sending food or financial aid to other countries? I can’t ever recall hearing of them doing it. That is why they have money to keep lending us to stay afloat because they give no humanitarian aid out to other countries not even in global mass destruction from Hurricanes or tsunamis emergencies..They take care of their own and they protect their borders big time to where by your entering into their country illegally you could be shot on the spot or charged with spying and jailed for many years..We as a sovereign Nation are probably the weakest on our border protection and we shouldn’t be as our enemies are always looking to find ways to strike at us. With our open borders like we now have are like a sieve our border guards can’t cover all of the border fencing 24/7 at one time so it would be very easy for our enemy commandos to infiltrate our country and disappear into the heartland and set up a command post of their own and start raising cane with our interstructure without being noticed for some time or start placing bombs on our buses, trains or etc..We don’t know to this day how many of these people could be located in our country right now waiting for the right time to strike. If 12 million illegal Mexicans and South Americans came into America illegally and haven’t gotten caught how can we not think our enemies have not done the same? If we don’t build the border wall each day that our border remains wide open the chances of our enemies infiltrating our shores and into our neighborhoods gets even greater..Wake up America we all know that we must build the border wall in order to protect our country especially now with the way the world is becoming dog eat dog mentality. The longer we continue to put building the wall off the move vulnerable we become. Can we afford to continue to play Russian Roulette with our country and our people at stake? The sane individual knows the answer is no we can’t!! We must let the peoples voices be heard on this major decision that our Congress members can’t seem to wrap their arms around and do the right thing and keep America and it’s people safe..Let’s get behind the Republicans and our President on the building of our southern border wall completely once and for all..If we don’t do it now with President Trump in office it will never get done we have already seen that developing in the minds and hearts of the Democrats..they for some unknown reasons want to keep our border wide open for anybody to invade us and they are. You see it every day what is so hard not to believe that it is happening and then we have to financially take care of them once they are here..We cannot afford to allow this kind of stupidity to be carried out year after year like has been because of a minority of bleeding hearts or the Democrats placing spoiler whenever they can to stop the closing up the border thinking that all of these illegals one day will be Democrats and can vote accordingly to keep them in office.. The cost to take care of all these illegals is tremendous on the coffers of our welfare, food stamps, and social security programs..Once these programs are all drained then what? Is Mexico going to start giving us funding to take care of their people up here? You know the answer to that one…ha ha ha!!Let’s take care of our own, build the border wall to protect our country and our people and live with that decision once and for all!! God Bless America!!
