Fox News commentator Geraldo Rivera thinks the crisis of illegal immigration has been “manufactured” and believes the U.S. southern border is secure.

“I do believe, this is where I know that you and I disagree and I disagree with most of the audience watching me right now will disagree. I think that this immigrant crisis is manufactured,” Rivera told Sean Hannity on Fox News Thursday.

Rivera said he thinks the hype is an “overreaction” and said illegal border crossing are at a 46-year low.

“I think it’s an overreaction to that so-called caravan of 1,000 that is now broken up,” Rivera said.

Hannity interrupted Rivera and said there is tangible proof of murder, rape and violent crimes being committed as a result of illegal immigration.

“I sat through a security briefing in a seven-year period of time including murder and rape and other violent crime. 642,000 crimes in total,” Hannity said. “How can you stay that’s being overstated?

“I say it with absolute certainty. I say that Illegal immigration across the southern border is near 46-year lows,” Rivera replied. “We did have a spike in March, probably having to do with the demand for agricultural workers here in the southwestern part of the country.”
