GOP’s Doug Collins Rips Democrat Daniel Goldman at Impeachment Hearings

By David Kamioner | December 9, 2019

With an energetic vengeance likely borne out of frustration with shady Democrat procedures throughout the hearings, Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) went after Democrat witness and counsel Daniel Goldman at the impeachment hearings of the House Judiciary Committee on Monday.

Describing the publication by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) of certain private phone records as “a drive by,” Collins delivered his remarks with both frenetic speed and righteous passion.

He made Goldman practically cower in his seat and seem like a petulant bureaucrat being taken to task by an avenging interrogator.

Along with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Schiff — who was conspicuously absent from Monday’s event — Goldman is responsible for publishing the private phone records of Ranking Member Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) of the Intelligence Committee, as well as of members of the press and the president’s private attorney, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Goldman is the Dem majority counsel to the House Intel Committee.

Collins went on to call the hearing “a charade,” define the questioning as “staff on staff,” and ask the question that was a constant refrain from many Republican members of the committee: “Where’s Adam?”

That refers, of course, to the Intel Committee chair who refused to attend — but instead detailed Goldman to attend the hearing (and take the heat) in his place.

And that was just Collins’ opening questioning.

He subsequently labeled former Vice President Joe Biden “a terrible candidate” who will “destroy himself on the campaign trail,” and said of Biden’s coercing the Ukrainian government to fire a prosecutor who was investigating Burisma, the firm that employed his son — and then publicly bragging about it — “He’s either a liar or he did it. He did it.”

Collins’ aggressive attitude and forceful delivery will go over well with the White House and with potential voters in the 2022 GOP primary for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia.

Gov. Brian Kemp, who recently gave the power of incumbency to entrepreneur Kelly Loeffler by appointing her to the U.S. Senate to take the seat of retiring Sen. Johnny Isakson, may be regretting his decision because of Collins’ performance today and Loeffler’s former ties to groups such as Planned Parenthood.

In another flourish, during member questioning when the time was yielded to him, Collins noted, “It is sad that Democrats on this committee are making the president of Ukraine out to be a liar.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky repeatedly has said he felt no pressure from President Trump and did not know of any quid pro quo on issues concerning the temporary halt in military aid to Ukraine.

Strangely, given the Ukraine president’s constant and consistent statements of this fact — the entire Democrat anti-Trump effort is based upon the perception that Zelensky somehow does not know his own feelings, experiences, and beliefs.
