Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover has supercharged a steady argument that the progressive left has been pushing for years, an argument built to chip away at one of our most beloved freedoms, that of free speech.

Thanks to Mr. Musk’s staunch belief – ‘awful but lawful’ – the Democrats have set their eyes on him and those who disagree with them as enemy #1.

The most common ploy among the left has been to claim, in various ways, that free speech “puts people in danger.” And the people “in danger,” of course, are various constituencies of the Democrat Party. They typically combine this with various accusations that the right is “violent.”

So you get the picture: right-wingers use “violent” speech to “put people in danger.”

That’s what makes what happened in a Congressional hearing yesterday all the more delicious.

Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace totally turned the tables on one such left-wing propagandist for their own dangerous rhetoric.

Context

Yesterday transgender activist and Harvard Law School Cyber-Law clinic member Alejandra Caraballo went to Congress to sit as a witness during the Democrat-led U.S. Oversight Committee on “white supremacy.”

Unfortunately for Caraballo, South Carolina’s Nancy Mace decided to attend, and she came to play.

Ms. Mace asked each witness if they believed extremist rhetoric on social media threatened democracy. They all, including Caraballo, said yes.

Ms. Mace then asked a follow-up question if they thought rhetoric on social media and rhetoric targeting officials with violence are threats to democracy, to which they all, including Caraballo, said yes.

Now, this is where what would typically be a snoozefest committee meeting got interesting.

Ms. Mace proceeded to read off and display a past tweet by Caraballo that she posted shortly after Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court:

“The 6 Justices who overturned Roe should never know peace again. It is our civic duty to accost them every time they are in public. They are pariahs. Since women don’t have their rights, these Justices should never have a peaceful moment in public again.”

When Ms. Mace asked Caraballo if that rhetoric was a threat to democracy, she was clearly unprepared to be confronted with such naked hypocrisy:

“I don’t believe that’s a correct characterization of my statements.”

Ouch, I believe they call that ‘getting owned.’

Cuts Both Ways

The point that Congresswoman Mace makes so beautifully is that hateful, violent rhetoric isn’t unique to just the right.

In fact, she says explicitly:

“It’s clear to me that we have to call out the threats to our democracy emanating from where they come, whether it’s the right or the left.”

But perhaps my favorite part of Ms. Mace’s masterclass on tossing trash back in the face of those who threw it in the first place is this following line:

“I look forward to working with anyone, Republican or Democrat…to address these threats from within and without, and I look forward to inviting more people who actually know what they’re talking about to our witness panels in the 118th Congress.”

Oh man, the hits just keep coming. Not only did Ms. Mace point out that any discussions or hearings in Congress are a sham, but that the witnesses, particularly Caraballo, are an expert in nothing except accusing others of that which they are guilty.

It’s The End Of The World!

Alejandra Caraballo is well known for going after Elon Musk. For example, when Elon reinstated past suspended accounts, she proclaimed:

“It’s like opening the gates of Hell in terms of the havoc it will cause.”

Because allowing alternative viewpoints and free speech, even if it’s something you don’t like or flat-out hate, is akin to Hell. Do you see a pattern yet with the progressive left?

It’s all about the sky falling because we want to return to our roots as a country that accepts more than one idea, debates concepts in the open, and learns to coexist in the same space as those we disagree with. Unfortunately, Caraballo was one of the many who tried to pressure Apple and Google to “boot” Twitter from their app stores as if that would be enough to silence the speech of free people.

But she doesn’t really want that anyway, and the proof is in her obsession with the fame and ego-stroking that Twitter provides her.

Mean Girl

The Twitter-verse has been steadily humming about an appearance Elon Musk recently made at a Dave Chappelle show. Elon Musk received a fair amount of boos and cheers at this event. Not at all surprising; I would imagine Elon will probably elicit a fair amount of boos in any room he enters.

Of course, Caraballo couldn’t help herself and had to comment and tweet:

“He f–ked around and is quickly finding out. Even Chappelle’s transphobic fans don’t like this jackass.”

Then, and I had to phone a friend to find out what this meant; she bragged about ‘ratioing’ Elon Musk. So for those out there who have a life and grew out of the pettiness of High School, ‘ratioing’ is when you garner more comments on your comment than the original author of the tweet you commented on.

What an important and serious person this is that Congress considers an expert on civil social media discourse. Then she proceeded to point out the hilarity in the fact that Musk allegedly deleted the tweets to spare himself embarrassment.

Funny how after getting owned by Congresswoman Mace, we can’t seem to find Caraballo’s previous tweets where she advocated for violence against Supreme Court Justices.

So to sum up: 

• The left portrays any criticism as “dangerous and violent”
• They are allowed to actually threaten people, which is not violent, for reasons never explained
• They don’t count on someone like Mace holding confronting them with their own words.
