Literally 1984: Cambridge Dictionary Adds New Definition of ‘Woman’

I used to believe that words mattered, but that’s not the case anymore. The progressive left has mastered the tactic of changing the nature of well, nature, by merely adjusting the definition of words to match their narrative.

By keeping pressure on society to adjust the reality that we live in, they have managed to erase decades of progress for various actual progressive movements throughout history. The first thing they attacked was the gains made through the civil rights movement by telling everyone that color does indeed matter and that to say otherwise is bizarrely racist.

The next target was the feminist movement that saw considerable leaps in equal rights for women and celebrating what it means to be a woman. Apparently, what it means to be a woman is whatever you want it to mean, including being a man.

Cause I’m Just A Girl

When I was a kid, I used to want to strangle my mother because from the time I could read, if I didn’t know the meaning of a word or how to spell it, she would tell me to “go look it up,” which meant a trip to our trusty dictionary that had a prominent place in the house.

This sacred tome held a world of knowledge, and I would never have thought to question its contents.

Now, you can’t even trust the dictionary.

The Cambridge Dictionary recently added a supplemental definition to the word ‘woman’:

“An adult who lives and identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.”

So many parts of that simple statement make me want to explode. First, the different sex they are referring to is male, so basically, a female can be a man now.

I could take the small win that at least they say you have to be an adult man to make this decision and not a child. However, the two sentences they provide as examples of how this definition is applied are even better:

“She was the first Trans woman elected to a national office.” & “Mary is a woman who was assigned male at birth.”

They aren’t even trying to hide their agenda at this point.

This Girl Is On Fire

To be fair to Cambridge Dictionary, they aren’t the first to adjust the definition of woman. In July, Merriam-Webster added a secondary definition to the word female:

“Having a gender identity that is the opposite of male.”

While their adjustment isn’t as obvious as the Cambridge adjustment, it holds the fundamental problem with the world today. We have blurred the concept of reality with the idea of being whatever you choose to be or, as the progressive left likes to call it, ‘identify as.’

This cancer has spread through obnoxious phrases like people’s ‘true self’ or ‘their truth,’ or ‘their lived reality’. All of these phrases are meant to provide some false sense of enlightenment. It’s right up there with ‘social justice’.

There is no other truth than truth and no different reality than reality, just as there is no such thing as ‘social justice’; there is only justice. To add to the insanity, the progressives have minimized the very nature of women with similar nonsensical phrases.

The government, medical community, and media have actively whittled down the beauty of being a woman with phrases like ‘pregnant people,’ ‘birthing people’, ‘people with uteruses,’ and ‘bodies with vaginas.’ If you are a woman, you should be insulted by this move to try to minimize who we are.

Add to that the insinuation that males can have babies, have periods, and go through menopause; it is a wonder that more feminists aren’t up in arms.

You Better Think

If you haven’t woken up yet to how the extreme gender ideology movement and the progressive left are trying to silence the voices of your daughters and dim the light of their potential, you are behind the curve. This isn’t just about words and language but about women’s rights.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has been actively fighting to allow transgender athletes to compete with women in sports events. Let me say that again, the organization meant to fight for the rights of minorities and the underserved, which used to include women, is now fighting to let men compete in women’s sports.

When this popped off with transgender swimmer Lia Thomas I couldn’t believe how many people, including women, were saying it’s not that big of a deal that our daughters have to compete with men during their weekend soccer matches. As if that’s the only point to be had.

Title IX was a significant win for women in this country as it closed an educational gap for women and girls that male athletes didn’t have to worry about. Athletic scholarships can mean the difference between going to college or not for many in this country, including women.

But it’s not just about women having an even playing field in sports, it’s also about safety.

Man! I Feel Like A Woman

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has probably taken the most heat for speaking out against the erasure of women.

My favorite tweet of hers is:

“If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.”

If you blur the lines of science and biology, you take away women’s unique gifts and challenges on this planet. Yet, unfortunately, schools across this country have made moves to create gender-neutral bathrooms, locker rooms, and language without regard for what that might mean for the girls in their schools.

Just this week, the Loudoun County Public School former Superintendent and spokesperson were indicted after a probe discovered they lied about their knowledge of sexual assaults on girls in bathrooms by a boy allowed to use the girl’s bathroom. This news provides hope for reality to prevail, but don’t get too comfortable.

The Centers for Disease Control defines ‘chest feeding’ as:

“A term used by many masculine-identified trans people to describe the act of feeding their baby from their chest, regardless of whether they have had chest/top surgery.”

What has happened to us that we are normalizing the idea that men can breastfeed babies? It used to be that if a man tried to make a baby suckle from his nipples, it would be considered a crime; now, it’s an acceptable term in the CDC.

It’s A New Generation

I’ll turn 40 next year, and most days, I feel pretty young still, but on days like today, I feel like a relic. I spent my whole adult life being told by men what type of woman I should be, how I should look, and how I should act.

I used to think that each generation of women had it easier than the last, thanks to the battles we fought for them. But, instead, I fear my daughter will still be told by men what type of woman she should be and how she should look and act – except those men will be allowed to say they know better because they are a woman themselves.

Matt Walsh from The Daily Wire released a documentary called What is A Woman? and it was fascinating and terrifying. The worst part of it all was all the people who couldn’t define what a woman is, and that is a sad commentary for where we are today.

I am a woman because of my chromosomes, the fact that I have the capacity to birth new life, and the fact that I can sustain new life with my body. And I don’t give a damn about my bad reputation as a true feminist who will never give up the fight against those who wish to erase my existence to make men feel better about themselves.

Because that is what this movement is doing, and they are winning.

It wasn’t so long ago – 1995 – that this Girl Power anthem was rocking the charts. Would it even be allowed on the air today?
