GOP Rep Demands ‘Dignity’ (Amnesty?) for 13 to 15 Million Illegal Immigrants at World Economic Forum

Republican Representative Maria Salazar, speaking on a panel at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, said America needs to grant “dignity” to roughly “13 (to) 15 million” illegal immigrants.

Salazar, a Republican who represents a largely Hispanic population in Florida’s 27th Congressional District, insists the only way for the United States to maintain its world power status is to “have hands.”

She urged her colleagues to pass a “complete overhaul of the immigration system.”

“Because not only do we need those hands, like the senator was saying, but we need to also give dignity to those people who are in the country,” Salazar maintains.

In the past, Salazar has introduced legislation to provide such “dignity,” which means in many cases permanent resident status for illegal aliens.

Maria Salazar Wants ‘Dignity’ For Illegal Immigrants

Maria Salazar proceeded to give a rough estimate of the number of illegal immigrants who need to be granted “dignity,” peppering in some Democrat talking points such as – they are “contributing to the economy” but being forced to “live in the shadows.”

“Those are the people that I represent. We’re talking about 13, 15 million people who are, most of them, Hispanics, I would say 85%, who speak my language, look like me and sound like me, that are contributing with the economy of this country,” she said.

(In reality, she represents the citizens of Florida’s 27th.)

“And they live in the shadows. So it’s time to seal the border … and then turn around and give dignity.”

Do you know what gets you dignity? – Legally immigrating and following the law.

And while she didn’t describe what she means, she has argued in the past that it doesn’t mean “amnesty.”

“That doesn’t mean a path to citizenship,” she insists, “that means to include them and make them dignified members of our community.” Is that so?

Tucker Carlson Takes Her to Task

Maria Salazar got into a heated confrontation with Fox News host Tucker Carlson this past March on two fronts – her support for a no-fly zone in Ukraine, effectively launching the US into a war with Russia, and accusations that she seeks ‘amnesty’ for illegal aliens.

Salazar enthusiastically supported a no-fly zone even though she admittedly to having no clue “what it would mean.”

“I don’t know what it will mean, but you know, freedom is not free,” Salazar told a reporter.

The reporter continued, “So you don’t know what a no-fly zone would mean, that you have to shoot down Russian planes, I mean…”

“Of course,” she replied.

Her comments at the time were reckless. Any reasonable person realizes such actions would lead to war. And Carlson called her out for it.

“What should we do then?” Salazar asked.

Carlson replied: “Always and everywhere, especially for the U.S. government or one of its elected representatives, act on behalf of the core interests of the United States government, it is really super simple.”

The debate then veered into charges by Carlson that she supports amnesty for illegal immigrants, based on legislation she proposed known as the “Dignity Act.”

“The Dignity Act, which I presented last month is an Immigration Reform Law, probably the first one that the GOP has presented in a long time,” she said. “It has one of the strongest border security measures in the history of the United States Congress.”

“All right, got it,” Carlson interrupted. “But it also provides amnesty for tens of millions of people.”

What Salazar is doing is playing a shell game. She’s not demanding “amnesty,” instead her bill has a series of programs to give illegal aliens “permanent resident status” or “defers” deportation for others.

But because it only grants permanent legal status instead of citizenship, Salazar can play her word games about opposing “amnesty.”

Salazar’s alternate calls for dignity or, as Tucker claims, amnesty, led the Fox News host to accuse her of being Ukraine First.

“You are applying a very different standard to Ukraine,” he said. “Because you believe in Ukrainian nationalism, but not Americans.”

Salazar later refused to state whether she supported having the military secure the southern border even as she called on the US to shoot down Russian planes to protect Ukraine from an invasion.

What about American citizens and legal immigrants, Ms. Salazar? What about their right to dignity? Their right to be rewarded for actually following the law? Their right to jobs and income? Their right to safety from law-breakers?
