Representative Byron Donalds fired back after MSNBC host Joy Reid claimed his nomination for Speaker of the House was little more than a “diversity statement” by Republicans.
Donalds, a Florida congressman, had been nominated multiple times for the role, receiving 20 votes and momentarily blocking Kevin McCarthy’s ascension to the speakership.
Reid claimed the nomination was a desperate attempt by the GOP to respond to Hakeem Jeffries’ own nomination and the fact that Democrats have more minority members in their caucus.
“Do you not believe that the idea was to make a diversity statement by nominating you?” she asked Donalds.
Donalds immediately fired back, insisting race was never a factor in the decision-making process.
“That was not the idea because I was in the room when the decision was made by people who chose to nominate me,” he replied.

Joy Reid Tries to Diminish Byron Donalds, Fails
Joy Reid had repeatedly diminished Byron Donalds’ nomination by referring to him as essentially a token of the Republican party.
“Any black guy will do,” she said last week during an analysis of the Speaker fight. “Especially one who is very nice, big in stature, and goes along with the program.”
Representative Chip Roy of Texas initially nominated Donalds as Speaker, offering a plethora of reasons why he was qualified for the job.
“Byron is a dear friend, a solid conservative, but most importantly, a family man who loves dearly his wife, Erika, and his three children,” Roy said.
“He has a proven track record as a businessman, public servant in the Florida Legislature, and now as a member of the United States Congress.”

Donalds proceeded to hammer Reid with a revelation as to why he was nominated in the first place.
“The reality is that a lot of members actually do believe in my ability to lead. They do,” he said. “Am I to be despised for my youth because I served one term when members know I have the ability to engage other members?”

Reid Repeatedly Belittles Black Republicans
Listening to Joy Reid belittle a black man because his politics don’t align with hers is blatantly ignorant. Doing so knowing she’s little more than a “diversity” hire for MSNBC is amusing.
Doing so and then getting smoked on an intellectual level is truly something to behold.
Reid sputtered and failed in her attempts to call Donalds’ previous accusation that she had put him down as “less black than other folks,” an argument she called “unfair.”

Reid then lost a debate on critical race theory, accusing Donalds of not wanting students to “learn about the racial history of this country” and falsely claiming it isn’t being taught in schools.

Reid has consistently denigrated black Republicans throughout her disgraceful career at the only network that would even consider hiring somebody so completely devoid of knowledge.
She repeatedly played clips of Herschel Walker to imply that he was unintelligent and celebrated the reelection of Raphael Warnock as historic because voters had rejected the GOP nominee and instead elected a black man. A real black man, apparently.
Reid has also attacked Senator Tim Scott as a “token” of the Republican party and recently suggested he was little more than a prop.
“You’ve got to love Tim Scott standing there to provide the patina of diversity over that round of words, that basket full of words,” Reid said.

She also referred to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas – a far more accomplished African-American than Reid could ever hope to be – as “Uncle Clarence,” an obvious reference to the Uncle Tom racial slur.
