George Lopez Booed for Anti-Trump Jokes at Charity Event

Alleged “comedian” George Lopez (we say “alleged” because we spent hours looking for evidence that the man has ever said anything funny, but turned up nothing) faced a tough crowd when he decided it would be appropriate to make a charity gala political.

The gala took place in Denver, Colorado, and those in attendance donated large sums of money to be there. All donations went to the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes. Among those sitting in the front row was Liberty Media President and CEO Greg Maffei, who donated $250,000 for his seat. Liberty Media’s most recognizable asset is Sirius XM.

Maffei had reportedly asked Lopez to tune down the Trump jokes, and it was Lopez’s response that garnered a negative reaction from the crowd. Lopez allegedly replied to Maffei, “Thank you for changing my opinion on old white men, but it doesn’t change the way I feel about orange men.”

It’s at that point someone began recording. “Listen, it’s about the kids . . . I apologize for bringing politics to an event. This is America — it still is. So I apologize to your white privilege.”

According to Page Six, Lopez also made a joke about Trump’s proposed border wall on the US-Mexico border, saying, “I guess you can get some Mexicans to do it cheaper and they wouldn’t crush the tunnels underneath.” When the audience didn’t respond as expected, he quipped, “Are you El Chapo people?” in reference to the drug kingpin who has used tunnels to evade authorities.

Not his best work, for sure.

After the blowback, he announced a video segment, and didn’t return to the stage once it was over.
