Gaetz Tears Apart Democrat Impeachment Witness Karlan: ‘You Don’t Get to Interrupt Me’

Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida used his time during the impeachment inquiry Wednesday to yell at the Democrats’ witness, Professor Pamela Karlan, going so far as to shout at her.

Gaetz went after Karlan hard during a heated exchange in which he went after her hard about previous statements she had made regarding congressional redistricting.

‘You don’t get to interrupt me on this time’

“When you talk about how liberals want to be around each other and cluster, and conservatives don’t want to be around each other … you may not see this from like the ivory tower of your law school,” Gaetz said, before Karlan attempted to respond.

Gaetz then shot back in a louder voice, “Excuse me, you don’t get to interrupt me on this time.”

Gaetz also went after Karlan for invoking President Trump’s 13-year-old son.

Karlan Attacks Baron Trump

Karlan had mentioned Barron derisively earlier in her testimony, and Gaetz criticized the professor for making “a little joke about Baron Trump.”

“It makes you looks mean,” he said.

Gaetz wasn’t the only one who thought Karlan’s dig on Baron Trump was beyond the pale. Various political figures and commentators from across the ideological spectrum said Karlan’s remarks went too far, and First Lady Melania Trump even weighed in late Wednesday.

“A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics,” Melania tweeted. “Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.”

Should Obama Have Been Impeached Instead of Trump?

Gaetz ended his his tirade against Karlan by suggesting that the House should have impeached the last president–Barack Obama—not Trump.

“If wiretapping a political opponent is an impeachable offense, maybe it’s a different president we should be impeaching,” he said.

Gaetz was referring to reports and speculation that the Obama administration might have spied on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign through the FBI. The Department of Justice inspector general recently concluded that the FBI didn’t spy on the president’s campaign.
