On Tuesday, Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy questioned press secretary Jen Psaki about the wisdom of the CDC’s new mask guidelines, in which the government now wants some people who have been vaccinated to begin wearing masks again in some circumstances.
The exchange happened during the daily press briefing at the White House.
PETER DOOCY: "If vaccines work…then why do people who have the vaccine need to now wear masks?"
PSAKI: "The public health leaders in our Administration have made the determination, based on data, that that is a way to make sure they're protected" pic.twitter.com/KuRlLaK188

Doocy Confronts Psaki
Doocy wanted to know why, after being told for weeks that vaccinated individuals could ditch their masks in most circumstances, would government officials now say vaccinated people need to wear face masks again.
Doocy asked Psaki, “Why do vaccinated people need to put the masks back on?”
Psaki referenced a chart behind her and said that the COVID-19 vaccines were saving lives, but noted that most of those who were being hospitalized had not been not vaccinated.
Doocy pushed again. “If vaccines work — this sign says that they do — then why do people who have the vaccine need to now wear masks, the same as people who have not had it?” Doocy asked, also referencing the same chart Psaki had.

CDC Now Recommending Masks Again
Psaki replied, “Because the public health leaders in our administration have made the determination, based on data, that that is a way to make sure they are protected, their loved ones are protected, that is an extra step given the transmissibility of the virus.”
On Tuesday, the CDC announced new mask recommendations, saying that people in certain areas should wear masks indoors even if they have been vaccinated.
The CDC also wants all children under 12 to wear masks due to there not being a vaccine approved for children than young available yet.
