Former MSNBC contributor Malcolm Nance, who famously “took up arms” against Russia by joining the Ukrainian Foreign Legion, has been cited in a New York Times article discussing “stolen valor” and is accused of contributing to chaos in the regional war effort.
The report is titled “Stolen Valor: The U.S. Volunteers in Ukraine Who Lie, Waste and Bicker,” and highlights several instances in which citizens are fighting for Ukraine when they would otherwise “not be allowed anywhere near the battlefield.”
Nance served in the Navy for roughly 20 years as a cryptologist.
In a segment with MSNBC’s Joy Reid in 2022, Nance was interviewed wearing a combat uniform and holding a weapon.
“The more I saw of the war going on, the more I thought I’m done talking,” Nance said, as he announced he had joined the Legion in an effort to “help this country fight what is essentially a war of extermination.”

MSNBC commentator Malcolm Nance, rather than helping Ukraine by joining their Foreign Legion, “became enmeshed in the chaos” according to the New York Times report.
Nance is described in the column as being involved in a “messy” power struggle involving the group, having wrongly accused a pro-Ukraine fundraising group of fraud, trying to get Legion administrators fired by authoring “counterintelligence” reports, and even labeling one a “Russian spy” with no evidence to back it up.
“Malcolm Nance, a former Navy cryptologist and MSNBC commentator, arrived in Ukraine last year and made a plan to bring order and discipline to the Legion,” the Times writes. “Instead, he became enmeshed in the chaos.”
Better yet, they note that Nance left Ukraine but continues to fundraise for the cause with new allies – including one named Ben Lackey who claimed to be a former Marine recently working as a manager at Longhorn Steakhouse.
“In fact, the Pentagon said he had no military experience,” the Times reveals, “and he worked as a server, the steakhouse said.”
Hence the ‘stolen valor’ association having no military experience. But how bad does it have to be that you have to steal valor from a steakhouse manager?

When he’s not busy pretending to be a Ukrainian warrior and palling around with fake Marines, Malcolm Nance is busy fighting enemies that exist in his own mind.
Months after joining Ukraine’s Foreign Legion, Nance joined MSNBC to slam Republicans as an “insurgency,” comparing them to multiple terror organizations and suggesting they’d have to be fought to prevent them from “killing” their neighbors.
He literally put them on the same level as Russia, in other words, and wants to fight innocent people in his neighborhood.
“A year and a half ago, when I was calling this an insurgency, people were saying, ‘That’s crazy. This isn’t an insurgency. This isn’t like Iraq. It’s not like Libya. It’s not like Syria,'” he said. “Well, it is. And it’s well on its way.”
“So, we are well on our way to a multiyear campaign that we are already two years into this campaign where we may have to fight them, the ‘they’ in my title, and the ‘they’ in my title is those who want to kill Americans are your neighbors,” he warned.
Those people calling you crazy, Mr. Nance? You should have listened to them.
