Facebook Censors Conservative Children’s Book Publisher For ‘Low Quality Or Disruptive Content’

Big Tech continues to exercise domain over what Americans can and cannot see. In the latest case, Facebook is now deciding what American children should or shouldn’t read by censoring a conservative children’s book publisher.

Recently, Facebook “permanently disabled” the ad account of “Heroes of Liberty.” Heroes of Liberty publishes books about prominent conservative American figures like Supreme Justice Amy Coney Barrett, Author Thomas Sowell, and former President Ronald Reagan. 

The social media giant permanently locked the publisher out of their Facebook ad accounts, citing “low quality or disruptive content.”

Facebook Disables Heroes Of Liberty Ad Account

Facebook first locked Heroes of Liberty out of their ad account on December 23rd. The book publisher received a message from Facebook stating, “This ad account, its ads and some of its advertising assets are disabled because it didn’t comply with our policy on Low Quality or Disruptive Content.”

When Heroes of Liberty appealed Facebook’s decision, the social media giant made their ruling a “final” one.

Facebook sent the publisher this message, “After a final review of this ad account, we confirmed it didn’t comply with our Advertising Policies or other standards. You can no longer advertise with this ad account and its ads and assets will remain disabled. This is our final decision.” 

Heroes of Liberty editor and board member Bethany Mandel appeared on the Fox Business channel Sunday and did not hold back about her reaction to Facebook’s decision and what she thought might really be happening.

Mandel said, “The question is: is a children’s biography of Ronald Reagan no longer permissible on Facebook? We don’t know. But apparently promoting one may well kill a business.”

Mandel continued saying,

“We are not in politics, we are in the business of creating beautiful stories about great people that will entertain children and give them life lessons. To cancel children’s books because they celebrate American values that 90% of Americans believe in isn’t even anti-conservative bias, it’s anti-American. Pure madness.”

Heroes Of Liberty Uses Facebook Account To Promote Books

Bethany Mandel says that Heroes of Liberty started trying to build up their brand through use of the Facebook ads back in July of 2021.

The publisher began publishing the books on November 9, and officially launched the brand on November 14.

Prior to being locked out of their Facebook ad account on Dec. 23, Heroes of Liberty promoted 68 ads on the platform. The social media giant also blocked the publisher from posting content on its public page. 

Mandel claims 95.2% of the advertising budget went to ads that were ranked “average” or “above average” on the platform, adding that only 3 out of 68 ads were rated “below average.”

Mandel says that the publisher is not only out a big chunk of money spent on Facebook ads, but assets and data are also gone.

She laments, “marketing-wise we are back in square one, financially it’s even more challenging.”

Popular With Parents

Bethany Mandel, who is a home-schooling mother of five, says the series of books is becoming popular with other parents who, because of the COVID pandemic, got a look at what their kids were being taught when most American schools went to remote learning.

She also said that the books are not focused on conservative politics or personalities, but traditional American values and good moral lessons.

According to a Fox Business report, a publisher’s survey showed that 58% want children’s books to reflect conservative and traditional values, and 52% of conservative and moderate parents do not want their kids subjected to left-leaning liberal ideology like critical race theory.

Mandel also stated that in a Heroes of Liberty survey, 67% of parents said they pre-read their children’s books. In addition to the books on Barrett, Reagan, and Sowell, Heroes of Liberty plans to publish one book a month. Some of the upcoming books will look at the lives of Mark Twain, General Douglas MacArthur, Alexander Hamilton, and even Rush Limbaugh.

Ironically, when it came time to hire illustrators, Heroes of Liberty approached 12 of the top illustrators in the U.S. None would take on the project. Those that worked on the book series came from Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Bethany Mandel summed up the state of big tech and social media saying,

“It’s very likely those same people reported to Facebook that our content is disturbing, because it doesn’t sit well with their radical worldview. These are the same people who riot and take down statues of our founding fathers in the real world, and they want to strip us of our ability to honor our Heroes in the digital sphere and in children’s books. Our problem is that it seems that Facebook went with the mob judgment call and not with common sense.”
