Eric Holder, First Sitting AG to be Held in Contempt, Says Barr is Unfit to Serve

Former Attorney General Eric Holder has written a scathing op-ed for the Washington Post in which he declares William Barr to be “incapable” and “unfit to lead the Justice Department.”

It should be noted that Holder is the first sitting attorney general to have ever been held in contempt of Congress – both civilly and criminally – in a bipartisan vote on June 12th, 2012, for his role in stalling investigation of the Fast and Furious scandal.

His calling anybody unfit is remarkable chutzpah. Even more remarkably, the crux of his criticism involves Barr’s perceived allegiance to the President.

“The American people deserve an attorney general who serves their interests, leads the Justice Department with integrity and can be entrusted to pursue the facts and the law, even — and especially — when they are politically inconvenient and inconsistent with the personal interests of the president who appointed him,” he wrote.

“William Barr has proved he is incapable of serving as such an attorney general. He is unfit to lead the Justice Department.”

Holder Was Unfit

We wouldn’t put it past the Democrats to try and avenge Holder by holding a contempt vote on Bill Barr for whatever unscrupulous charges they can come up with.

But there is little doubt it would only happen in a highly partisan, anti-Trump resistance, strictly party line atmosphere.

Holder, by contrast, was held in contempt of Congress over his refusal to produce Operation Fast and Furious documents. In doing so, seventeen Democrats crossed party lines to join Republicans in their findings of contempt.

The former AG’s efforts to stall the Fast and Furious investigation were for obvious reasons. His Justice Department was involved in running guns to Mexico which were then lost and used by drug cartels.

One of the weapons was used in the shooting death of border patrol agent Brian Terry, while others turned up at the scenes of violent crimes in Phoenix, as well as several other violent crimes across the country.

Obama’s Wingman

In addition to that, Holder was famously caught lying under oath to Congress by claiming to have never been involved in trying to prosecute reporters, despite personally approving an application for a warrant on Fox News’ James Rosen as a potential co-conspirator in espionage.

His contempt vote led former House Oversight Committee Chair Darrell Issa to refer to Holder as “the most divisive U.S. Attorney General in modern history,” a man who served as little more than a “political activist.”

Indeed, Obama’s close pal was the truly unfit person in this conversation, but also deeply loyal to his boss.

Which leads us to another thing. Eric criticizing the current Attorney General for allegedly serving at the behest of the President is especially rich.

Today, Holder denounces Barr for “loyalty to the president and his interests” and a willingness “to serve not at a careful remove from politics” but “under the direct ‘control’ of President Trump.”

In 2013, Holder said in a radio interview he is “still the president’s [Obama’s] wingman” and “there with my boy.”

Imagine the outrage had Barr ever said anything even vaguely similar.
