Elizabeth Warren Says Walmart’s Decision to Discontinue Handgun Ammo Sales ‘Not Nearly Enough’

After Walmart confirmed Tuesday that the nationwide retail giant would discontinue the sale of handgun ammunition, Elizabeth Warren said the corporation must “do more” to limit the sale of guns and ammo and that this decision was merely a “good start.”

‘Walmart can and should do much more’

“This is a good start—but it’s not nearly enough. Walmart can and should do much more. And we need real gun reform, now,” Warren tweeted.

Walmart’s decision comes after a deadly mass shooting at one of their stores in El Paso, Texas that killed 22 people and injured dozens more. The retail chain says it now plans to focus on “hunting rifles” and other “sporting accessories.”

“Walmart is set to end sales of handguns in Alaska and will discontinue the sale of short-barrel rifle and handgun ammunition in stores nationwide, the super chain’s president and CEO announced Tuesday afternoon,” reports Fox News. “The store said it will gear its focus toward long barrel deer rifles and shotguns, supply much of the ammunition they require and provide hunting and sporting accessories and apparel.”

“We have a long heritage as a company of serving responsible hunters and sportsmen and women, and we’re going to continue doing so,” McMillon said.

In addition to drawing down handgun ammo sales, Walmart also wants its customers in “open carry states” not to bring guns into their stores without permission from local law enforcement and managers.

“We encourage our nation’s leaders to move forward and strengthen background checks and to remove weapons from those who have been determined to pose an imminent danger,” the statement said.

Warren Wasn’t the Only One

Warren wasn’t the only 2020 Democrat to try to capitalize politically on Walmart’s policy change.

Frontrunner Joe Biden tweeted, “This is an important step by Walmart, but we must go further. If we want to end our gun violence epidemic, we must start by passing universal background checks and banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. It’s your turn to act, Senate Republicans.”

Not surprisingly, Bernie Sanders also jumped into the conversation, tweeting, “I applaud the brave Walmart workers who called on the company to stop selling guns. This is a good step, but we still have a gun violence crisis. Mitch McConnell must stop his cowardice, stand up to the NRA and allow Congress to pass common sense gun safety legislation.”

Beto O’Rourke, polling in single digits and desperate for attention, wasn’t going to be left out. He tweeted, “This is a step in the right direction—and I’m grateful Walmart has taken action—but we can’t rely on corporations to stop gun violence. We need universal background checks, we need red flag laws, and we need to buy back every single assault weapon.”

Let’s Be Honest About What Democrats really Want Regarding Gun Control

Remember, this is the same Beto who has vowed to decree a mandatory assault weapons buyback if elected president.

It’s safe bet that for all of these Democrat White House wannabes, no amount of gun regulation will be enough until they completely subvert the Second Amendment.

Both private and public entities will no doubt continue to curtail gun rights. Expect Democrats to say each time what they said on Tuesday about Walmart’s new policy: It’s “not nearly enough.”
