Disney Tries To ‘Modernize’ Movie ‘Bambi’ For Remake – It Immediately Backfires

Disney is currently working on a remake of the classic 1942 film Bambi, but there’s already outrage spreading over plans to “modernize” the movie.

Disney Wants To ‘Modernize’ Bambi

Writer Lindsey Anderson Beer recently told “Collider” that she is currently working on a script for the Bambi remake, with her goal being to “modernize” it.

“I think that to be able to bring it to life for kids these days in a way that maybe they relate to a little bit more would be of service to the original,” she said.

While Beer gave few specific details on how she plans to “modernize” the story, she indicated that one thing that will change in the remake is the way the death of Bambi’s mother is dealt with.

“Not to spoil the plot, but there’s a treatment of the mom dying that I think some kids, some parents these days are more sensitive about than they were in the past,” she said. “And I think that’s one of the reasons that they haven’t shown it to their children.”

“What’s interesting about Bambi to me is it absolutely is a classic and it’s a beautiful love poem, such artistry to it,” Beer continued. “I do think there’s an entire generation of children who have never seen the original and that’s very different from, say Little Mermaid or Aladdin or the 90’s heyday films that they’ve definitely already seen.”

“I can’t tell you how many kids I’ve seen who’ve never seen Bambi, which is such a shame,” she concluded. “The thing is, it is such a gorgeous film. It’s a little bit of a different tempo than I think modern audiences are used to.”

Disney Hit With Backlash

Unfortunately for both Beer and Disney, however, social media users immediately lost their minds over her comments, according to The New York Post.

“A modernized Bambi? Pretty sure that story would still work today, just as it is?” one user commented, with another adding, “I wonder what this means ‘modernized retelling’? They gonna change Bambi to be a moose instead?”

“How exactly do you ‘modernize’ something that took place in the middle of the forest,” a third user wrote. “There was nothing about Bambi’s original story that screamed ‘this was made in the 40s.’”

“Why the f*** do they want to modernize Bambi? Screw Woke Disney,” someone else commented, according to Daily Mail. Yet another user added, “Bambi has officially gone woke. Expect pronoun and critical race to kill Bambi’s mom.”

‘Stop Rehashing And Go Create!’

Others called out Disney for continuing to make remakes of classic films instead of creating new content.

“Dragging out classics from the graves & putting on shiny new clothes to squeeze more money out of them is disrespectful to their legacy,” one person commented. “You’re meant to be a creative company, stop rehashing and go create!”

“I wish they would stop remaking Disney classics,” the rightwing media personality Tomi Lahren told Sky News.

“I think that there are more problematic things to have to explain to children besides the death of animals, I think that is the circle of life,” she added. “I mean really I’m waiting for this Bambi remake to have a trans deer – or maybe the mother dies from climate change.”

Disney really has gone full woke in recent years, and it seems that Bambi is about to fall victim to that same trap. In the end, Disney shouldn’t be surprised if their Bambi remake ends up flopping just like most of their other woke new movies have.
