The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) was mocked from all sides Thursday following a tweet in which they praised President Biden for lowering gas prices by two cents.
The tweet features a very, very targeted chart showing the price of gas dropping by two cents over the past week.
The problem is, gas has risen over $1 per gallon since Biden took office.
The decrease coincides with an announcement by President Biden last week that the Department of Energy would make 50 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve available as an attempt to lower prices for Americans.
“Thanks, [President Biden],” the DCCC wrote along with a chart showing gas prices over the past seven days obtained from the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) website.

DCCC Mocked For Celebrating Gas Prices
Observers couldn’t help but note that the celebration of two cents per gallon seems a little out of touch considering all of the economic troubles currently befalling the American people.
Stretching out the data points for the chart – let’s say, back to around the time of Biden’s inauguration – shows gas prices have actually risen from $2.39 to $3.38 in late November.
The DCCC is celebrating a two-cent drop while gas prices under the man they’re thanking have gone up nearly a full dollar according to this same chart.
Here’s the rest of that chart going back to Biden’s inauguration.

They’re celebrating $0.02 while Americans are facing higher prices for food and groceries, struggling to find items on empty shelves, and having difficulty traveling this holiday season due to the costs.
Even the Washington Post couldn’t get on board writing, “You’re not helping, DCCC.”
“This might be the worst defense of the Biden administration yet,” they write.
Glenn Kessler, the Washington Post fact-checker, couldn’t hide his revulsion at the feeble attempt by the DCCC to celebrate gas prices.
“What an utterly ridiculous chart,” he wrote. “Truly dumb.”
Further mockery ensued on all sides.

Prices Soaring
It is difficult not to compare the DCCC celebrating two-cent savings in gas prices to the White House this past summer bragging about Fourth of July cookout savings at a rate of 16 cents.
Planning a cookout this year? Ketchup on the news. According to the Farm Bureau, the cost of a 4th of July BBQ is down from last year. It’s a fact you must-hear(d). Hot dog, the Biden economic plan is working. And that’s something we can all relish. pic.twitter.com/7h9qLauIbC

While the DCCC would rather try to sell savings in a bubble of one week, the reality is gas prices have been out of control under President Biden.
Gas prices in October were at a seven-year high, up 50 percent from one year earlier.
The situation is so bad in Los Angeles that CBS News ran a report featuring an upset driver saying, “I can’t do this anymore.”

“Man, they’re high. Really, really high,” another driver said. “And I know it’s California but these are some really high gas prices.”
President Biden’s policies have run roughshod over the oil and gas industry through such measures as canceling the Keystone XL pipeline and suspending oil and gas leases in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).
