Democrat Senator Says We Should Believe in Climate Change Like a ‘Religion’

During a speech on Tuesday, Democratic Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii said that liberal activists needed to begin believing in climate change as if it were a “religion.”

Her remarks were made at an event held by the Center for American Progress, where the Democrat stressed that her party must show real passion on environmental issues if there is any chance of beating President Donald Trump in 2020.

‘Believe in climate change as though it’s a religion’

“Believe in climate change as though it’s a religion, it’s not, it’s science,” Hirono said at the event. “Get people out to vote, so that we can have people here who truly are committed to human rights, environmental rights.”

Hirono is a Staunch Advocate for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s ‘Green New Deal’

Hirono has been a staunch supporter of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, calling it a “bold national framework” in February.

“Confronting the challenge of climate change requires a comprehensive approach to transforming our country in a way that prioritizes environmental health and wellness, while also expanding opportunity and creating good-paying jobs as we transition to a low carbon economy,” Hirono said. “I welcome this bold national framework that tracks so closely to what Hawaii is already doing and what many of us have long advocated to enable communities, families, and individuals to thrive.”

Hirono doesn’t think the Green New Deal–a socialist scheme some believe would cost nearly $4 trillion annually–is too extreme and instead calls it “common sense.”

Extremism Not New for Hirono

Hirono’s climate change “religion” remarks come just a few months after she joined Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris to question whether or not judicial nominees who hold true to Catholic church teachings are qualified to hold office. The Senate rebuked Hirono for her line of questioning with a unanimous resolution, but she defended her actions anyway.

Ocasio-Cortez has been just as extreme as Hirono when it comes to climate change. “AOC” compared those who oppose her Green New Deal to white Americans who resisted the civil rights movement. The socialist congresswoman also said climate change was a “systemic threat to our country” on the same level as World War II or the Cold War.

As hard as it might be to believe, these people are members of the United States Congress. God help us.
