Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino unfurled an NFL player’s argument on gun control, deftly explaining how tighter restrictions would never stop dangerous people from illegally obtaining their weapons.
Dominique Hamilton, defensive tackle for the New York Giants, thought he had a mic drop argument when it came to implementing “stricter gun laws.”
“If you’re a responsible gun owner and your only intention is to use your weapon for self-defense and or hunting purposes,” he tweeted. “How does stricter gun laws making it harder for dangerous people to acquire guns infringe on your rights?”
Hamilton added, “I’ll wait,” indicating he was confident – nay, certain – that nobody would be able to counter his point.

Hamilton, resting on his argument, continued to spar back and forth with followers, sure that he had won the battle and ended the gun control debate for eternity.
“To the people answering my question with a question you will be skipped,” he defiantly announced. “Answering a question with a question is the first sign of defeat. The next sign is when you resort to name calling like a child.”
It took Bongino mere minutes to sack Hamilton’s argument, just like the hopes of the Giants making the playoffs this year.
“Because criminals don’t care about gun laws,” he wrote. “Or any other laws for that matter. That’s what makes them criminals genius.”
Bongino added the hashtag “#TheMoreYouKnow,” for good measure.

Oof, blindsided.
Criminals, you see, don’t pay any attention to gun control laws. They don’t pay any mind to laws, period.
Perhaps it was former President Ronald Reagan who conveyed that message best.
“You won’t get gun control by disarming law-abiding citizens,” he said during a 1983 speech to the NRA. “There’s only one way to get real gun control: Disarm the thugs and the criminals, lock them up, and if you don’t actually throw away the key, at least lose it for a long time.”
Of course, locking up the criminals would involve one NFL player every seven days according to reports.
Perhaps Hamilton should focus on that instead.
