CPS Investigating Family Because Son Twirled a Pencil “Like a Gun”

Are you ready to feel your blood boil? Great! Child Protective Services in New Jersey is threatening to snatch a 13-year-old boy from his family and put him up for adoption–over an incident in which he twirled a pencil “like a gun.”

I’ve been sitting here for five minutes trying to figure out how to twirl a pencil like a gun, and I still can’t figure it out. Unsurprisingly, this ludicrous story began at a public school, where oppressing children and their parents for stepping out of line has become commonplace.

Letters to Ethan’s father, Michael, show the school found his son did nothing wrong at all, there would be no disciplinary action and the Superintendent was even confident the issue would be behind all of them…And that’s exactly what happened, until Ethan’s father received startling communication from New Jersey’s Department of Child Protection and Permanency and Department of Children and Families.

“I received a letter from them saying they had found an incident of abuse or neglect regarding Ethan because I refused to take him for psychological evaluation,” Michael said.

Actually, Michael did take his son to be evaluated in an effort to play along with CPS’s nonsense. No behavioral problem was found. (Duh.) But the state is still threatening to terminate Michael’s parental rights over his son’s inappropriate pencil-twirling. Let’s be clear: this is not an overreaction, or incompetence, or even government overreach. This is persecution.
