Many people were shocked but, unfortunately, not surprised when Randa Jarrar, a professor at California State University’s Fresno campus, celebrated the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush.
But rather than hit back with vitriol, the California College Republicans (CCR) responded in the classiest, most perfect way possible: they will hold a public memorial for Barbara Bush at Fresno State – and Jarrar is personally invited.
“These Leftist professors have no respect for the office- and they are preaching attitudes like those to our nation’s children,” CCR Chairwoman Ariana Rowlands said in a press release. “It is truly a shame when ideological differences trump common decency, but the California College Republicans will respond by holding a memorial that will be open to all for former First Lady Barbara Bush on the Fresno State campus. We invite Professor Jarrar to attend this memorial so she may educate herself on the truth surrounding Mrs. Bush’s extraordinary life and accomplishments.”
Boom!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The California College Republicans will host a memorial for former First Lady Barbara Bush at @Fresno_State campus in response to Fresno State professor Randa Jarrar attacking her shortly after her passing as an “amazing racist” who “raised a war criminal.” pic.twitter.com/au7z7u8z31

“The California College Republicans are proud to stand up for the legacy of former First Lady Barbara Bush, and are committed to fighting the disrespect for conservative dignitaries that is a trend in leftist academic institutions,” the release continued. “We extend our thoughts and prayers to the Bush family during this period of mourning.”
Fresno State has not taken action against Jarrar’s vile comments, and likely won’t. For one, while disgusting, Jarrar’s comments fall within the purview of free speech. For another, she’s currently on leave this semester and her comments were made as a private citizen.
That’s not to say that Jarrar shouldn’t take responsibility for her hatred and “educate herself on the truth,” as CCR suggested. But she probably won’t, and that’s just sad.
