CNN’s Jim Acosta Wants To Call The Delta Variant ‘The DeSantis Variant’

CNN's Jim Acosta Wonders Instead Of Calling It Delta Variant: 'Why Not Call It The DeSantis Variant?'

On Saturday, CNN anchor Jim Acosta continued the mainstream media’s narrative that Republicans who have pushed back on mandatory masking and coronavirus vaccination have caused a new COVID surge – making a glib remark about the “DeSantis variant.”

Acosta, who made a name for himself by acting as a persecuted journalist during the Trump administration, made his comments over the weekend.

Acosta: ‘People Should Not Have To Die So Some Politicians Can Own The Libs’

Acosta said, “People should not have to die so some politicians can own the libs. They’re not owning anybody.”

“But they may end up owning the pandemic, because they’re prolonging it,” he quipped.

Acosta pointed to Gov. DeSantis’ order to ban mask mandates in public schools and other places.

The CNN host also showed a video of GOP Sen. Josh Hawley criticizing the Biden administration issuing a vaccine mandate for federal workers.

Acosta focused on DeSantis again, this time for selling merchandise on his campaign website that mocks President Biden’s chief medical adviser, Dr. Anthony Fauci.

One item for sale is a koozie reading “Don’t Fauci my Florida.”

“Perhaps it’s time to start naming these new variants that may be coming out after them,” Acosta said, referring to anti-mandate Republicans.

Acosta: ‘Instead Of The Delta Variant, Why Not Call It The DeSantis Variant?’

“Instead of the Delta variant, why not call it the DeSantis variant?” Acosta suggested.

Acosta then appeared to suggest that some of the anti-mandate merchandise the DeSantis campaign was selling could fund future funerals due to deaths from the delta variant of COVID-19.

“We can sell beer koozies that say ‘Don’t Florida my Fauci’ and use the money to pay for all the funerals in the days to come,” Acosta added.
