Remember when Donald Trump called CNN “fake news”? Well, it looks like the charge is coming true.
On Thursday evening, CNN investigative reporter Thomas Frank published an “explosive report” claiming that there was an ongoing investigation into a Russian investment fund bearing ties to several Trump associates.
There was only one problem: It was all completely bogus. Just a few hours after publication the article disappeared, replaced with the following message below:
Oops.
For the sake of transparency, I am posting an editor's note from CNN concerning a story I posted on Thursday — https://t.co/xdCGW1Ib65

Naturally, the rest of the internet decided to take the opportunity to mock CNN.

You want to know the best part about this CNN fake news retraction?
They posted it at 10:50 on a Friday night. Pathetic! https://t.co/ZC4zbw5G3W

CNN's plan was to have the story go viral before the retraction. Always was the plan. How fake news is done with Hitler. https://t.co/VYdIWTfR9q

What will they come up next?
CNN has destroyed its reputation with its non-stop critical coverage of President Trump.
Conservatives on Twitter are right. Maybe it’s time CNN retract its entire network and start over.
