Senator Chris Murphy was kind enough to let slip a simple fact that most outside the ‘fake news’ bubble are already well aware – There is no smoking gun in the Trump-Russia story being peddled by his party.

“We certainly don’t have a smoking gun today,” Murphy admitted on MSNBC.

His statement follows analysis from MSNBC host Willie Geist, who explained that Director of National Intelligence James Clapper could not find evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Via The Washington Free Beacon:

Sen. Chris Murphy (D., Conn.) admitted Tuesday on MSNBC that Congress does not have a “smoking gun” proving President Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russian government.

“So, I don’t know. We certainly don’t have a smoking gun today, but it seems that this story is unfolding only in one direction,” Murphy said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Murphy’s comments came after Monday’s congressional hearing in which former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former acting Attorney General Sally Yates testified about former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s connections to Russia.

That puts Murphy in line with the same observation President Trump had …

Still, Captain Obvious is all over the case, saying that after several months of trying to force evidence to fit the narrative, the Democrats are “getting closer” to finding something.

“I have a feeling that there is a number of additional chapters here that haven’t been told, but no, today we don’t have that direct, clear evidence of collusion between Trump himself, high levels of the campaign, and the Russian government,” Murphy said. “But we certainly seem to be getting closer to that moment.”

Rest assured, Democrats won’t rest until they find something, whether real or perceived.
