Chelsea Clinton Roasted After Defending Hijab Barbie

It’s really only a matter of time until someone tries to pitch Chelsea Clinton as a political candidate, isn’t it?

Following last year’s election, there was some speculation over Chelsea continuing the Clinton political dynasty with a political run. The New York Post reported a mere two days after the presidential election that Chelsea was being groomed for a congressional run, and the gossip surrounding her mother hinted at a potential run for Mayor of New York City. Both denied the rumors, and obviously neither materialized.

While Hillary Clinton hasn’t remained in the woods as we hoped she would, Chelsea has remained an active member of the “resistance,” at least on Twitter. She’s done a better job at using her platform to expose herself as clueless, however. Yesterday, she decided to tweet out her support for the “super duper inspiring” Muslim barbie doll. Mattel, the producer of Barbie dolls, announced earlier this week that they are creating their first Muslim Barbie doll that will feature a hijab and is modeled after an Olympic fencer who made headlines for criticizing President Trump.

Here’s what Chelsea said:

Why is this inspirational? God knows, but I assume because it gives Chelsea the opportunity to virtue signal to the American population how much she “cares.”

I guess she really had no choice but to support women forced to cover their hair, given the tens of millions of dollars the Clinton Foundation has taken from regimes in places like Saudi Arabia. While some particularly deranged liberals have tried to turn the hijab (which yes, I know, is different from the burka) into an anti-Trump “resistance symbol,” Chelsea’s post left most sane people scratching their heads.

Liberals and Muslims certainly have made for strange bedfellows in the past few decades, and not even for rational reasons. “Islamophobia” is treated like a form of racism, and it it appears that many on the left fear being branded “racist” for criticizing illiberal aspects of Islam more than they care about defending liberal principles. And, as if it needed to be pointed out: Islam is not a race.

Are people like Chelsea pretending that the hijab is somehow empowering? It’s hard to believe any sane person could actually convince themselves of it.
