Charles Krauthammer Invokes Clint Eastwood in Discussion of Gorsuch’s Nomination

Ever since President Donald J. Trump formally nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch to replace the late-Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court, conservatives have rallied around the nominee against liberal attacks.

Despite receiving the highest possible rating from the American Bar Association, Senate Democrats, led by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, have promised to filibuster Gorsuch. Democrat obstruction over Gorsuch’s nomination may force Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to change the Senate rules and invoke the so-called “nuclear option,” which would reduce the threshold from 60 votes to just 50 for Gorsuch to be confirmed.

Now, Fox News contributor and syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer has spoken out against Democrats who plan to filibuster Gorsuch, invoking Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood in his commentary.

Speaking on Fox News’ Special Report on Tuesday, Krauthammer explained “If Schumer wants to trigger the nuclear option, I would quote Clint Eastwood with those immortal words: ‘Make My Day’, because it would be a disaster for the Democrats.”

From BizPacReview:

If New York Democrat Schumer breaks with tradition and pushes to filibuster, it may not end well for those wishing to avoid going “nuclear.” McConnell could impose a rule change that would lower the threshold from 60 to 51, allowing Gorsuch to be confirmed on a party line vote.

If that happens, Krauthammer predicted Trump’s next nominee for Supreme Court will “not be from central casting,” noting he or she would be more to the political right than Gorsuch.

“It’s going to be a much harder-edged conservative,” he said, “and it will be easy as hell for the Republicans to get him through, or her through, requiring only 51.”

Krauthammer is right. If Democrats try and filibuster Gorsuch it will only end badly for them. Republicans have the votes to confirm President Trump’s nominee, and it would be unfortunate if Democrats force the GOP to invoke the “nuclear option” to prevent further obstruction from the left.
