CBS Reporter Threatened by Illegal Immigrants at Border

CBS reporter threatened

Last week CBS reported David Begnaud accidentally confirmed that Mexico is not sending us their best.

Reporting from the Southern border, Begnaud witnessed two illegals cross the Rio Grande in broad daylight, just a couple hundred yards from a border checkpoint. Bagnaud was in the area for a report on Texas residents at the border who have been receiving notices about surveying for the wall.

Begnaud left his camera crew on the American side of the border and crossed over to the Mexican side. It was then that he saw the smuggler bringing two people across the river in a small boat. It was as he began filming, that another man, a scout (for illegal immigrants) approached him, threatening him and telling him to leave. Begnaud then returned to the American side of the border. “We were scared,” Begnaud said. “It was ominous to listen to him, and he was clearly telling us it was our time to leave.”(RELATED: Illegal Immigrant Pelts Border Patrol Agents With Rocks).

During the encounter, the scout was talking to the smuggler via a walkie-talkie.

After delivering the illegal immigrants to the American side, the smuggler returned walking back across the river with his boat, giving the CBS reporters the middle finger on his treck back to Mexico.

The segment becomes surprisingly pro-border at the end for a CBS segment, though Begnaud is also the reporter who debunked that fake ironic TIME Magazine “crying girl” cover. “This is why the Trump administration has been pushing for a border wall. It’s one reason why they want to put the wall through here, this area of Roma Texas, where we are. There is no wall here. Residents we talk to say they need more border patrol officers, more cameras… and more modern technology to try to detect the people that are crossing.”

“But you don’t need much modern technology to see what we did today,” Begnaud concluded.

Border Patrol issued the following statement to CBS:

As surprised as I am to see a pro-border segment aired on CBS, they did seem legitimately shocked at just how easy it is to illegally cross the border. If not with a border, how else can we possibly prevent crossings like we just saw?

Thankfully this reporter did not get hurt at the border, but this segment demonstrates just how dangerous our Southern border is, and why we need to increase security immediately.
