GOP front-runner Donald Trump is on top among Republicans in Iowa, but Dr. Ben Carson has zoomed up fast and the “Donald” might want to check his rear-view mirror.
Iowa poll okay for Trump, if right, but terrific for Ben Carson, also topping favorability by very big margin.

On Saturday night, a new poll by the Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics was released showing Trump capturing 23% of the vote among likely Republican caucus goers in the critical early voting state, but Dr. Ben Carson is at 18%.
And when first and second place choices are combined, they are even at 32%.
Both Trump and Carson have benefited from anti-establishment sentiment among voters in the Hawkeye State. Neither man has held elected office, and both scored well among Christian conservatives, the poll found.
- In 2001, Carson was named by CNN and Time magazine as “one of the nation’s 20 foremost physicians and scientists,” as well as being selected by the Library of Congress as one of 89 “living legends.”
- In 2006, Dr. Carson received the Spingarn Medal, the highest honor bestowed by none other than the NAACP. One would hope that Hinton, as the former president of the Gloucester County Branch NAACP, would at least give Carson some props.
- In 2008, Carson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 2004, he was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the President’s Council on Bioethics.
- Carson is an emeritus fellow of the Yale Corporation, the governing body of Yale University. He and his wife are co-founders of the Carson Scholars Fund, which has awarded more than 7,500 scholarships and has established 130 rooms in schools across the country. Carson has also authored several books.
Scott Walker, once the GOP’s leader in Iowa, is tied for third with Ted Cruz at 8%. Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio are next at 6%, with Carly Fiorina (5%) in fifth place and Mike Huckabee and Rand Paul (4%) tied for sixth.
Both men have a lifetime of extraordinary accomplishments behind them. That’s what people are looking for. Strong problem-solving skills and unrivaled competence. Not political skills or empty rhetoric. These two men would make a tremendous team to make America great again.
As Paul Harvey used to say, “… and now you have the rest of the story.”
