Cancer Survivor: President Trump’s Donation Saved My Life

Longtime readers of the Political Insider might remember the story of Shane Bouvet, a former campaign volunteer for now-President Donald Trump.

Bouvet was profiled in the Washington Post, a profile that featured his story of being a single dad working nights and volunteering for the Trump campaign during the day.

The story also mentioned how Bouvet’s father was undergoing chemotherapy treatments to battle cancer.

Trump noticed the report and had a staffer invite Bouvet to his inauguration. During a concert on the eve of Trump’s historic swearing-in, the volunteer was escorted to meet the President-elect personally.

Bouvet made a phone call to his father, Trump got on the phone with him and after the conversation, wrote a check for $10,000. Shane donated the money to his father to help with his chemotherapy treatments.

In an interview with Fox & Friends, Bouvet recalled breaking the news to his dad.

“I remember coming home and saying, ‘Dad, we have the money. We have the money to get you treatments.’ I’m forever grateful,” he said.

Bouvet and his father, Don, recently joined President Trump at the White House to tell their story, which now includes a diagnosis of being cancer-free.

Don simply told the President, “Thank you for saving my life.”

What a remarkable story!

“Not too many 25-year-olds would do something like that,” Don said of his son. “And I just can’t thank him enough, or President Trump.”

The surprises didn’t end there. During their White House visit, President Trump wrote Shane another check for $5,000.

“I’m going to give that to my father for everything he’s done for me in my life,” he said.

“That is a tremendous story of the love of a father by his son,” President Trump said of the Bouvet’s. “You just don’t see it often and it’s one of the beautiful things.”

Indeed it is … a beautiful thing for the Bovets, and a beautiful gesture by our president.
