Bill Clinton Says Media Treated Obama Differently Because of His Race

WASHINGTON, DC - NOVEMBER 20: U.S. President Barack Obama (R) jokes with former U.S. President Bill Clinton before awarding him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the East Room at the White House on November 20, 2013 in Washington, DC. Former President Bill Clinton, who continues to maintain positive media coverage despite having been impeached and despite the numerous sexual misconduct allegations throughout his career, claims the media was soft on Barack Obama.

Even better, he thinks it was because of his skin color.

You have to go full Jedi mind trick to play the race card, in reverse, on the one guy who plays the race card on everything that has ever happened in his career.

Well played, William.

Appearing on “CBS Sunday Morning,” Clinton joined author James Patterson to promote their new book, “The President is Missing.”

Correspondent Mo Rocca asked the former President about claims from supporters of President Trump that Obama was treated far better by the left-wing media. Even Clinton couldn’t deny that, but he left many people shocked when he gave his reasoning.

“Well, they did treat him differently than other Democrats and Republicans because they …” Clinton said.

Rocca briefly interrupted, “Why?”

“It was the political press,” Clinton continued. “You know, I don’t know. They liked him, and they liked having the first African American president – and he was a good president, I think.”

This isn’t a one-off viewpoint from Clinton either. He is, after all, the guy who once claimed Obama wasn’t qualified to run for President because he should have been fetching them coffee.

According to the late senator Ted Kennedy, Clinton claimed in 2008 that, “A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.”

During Sunday’s interview, Clinton made other notable comments, including the notion that President Trump was only elected because his supporters liked his mean-spirited campaign.

“I couldn’t be elected anything now ’cause I just don’t like embarrassing people,” he claimed. “My mother would have whipped me for five days in a row when I was a little boy if I spent all my time badmouthing people like this.”

Clinton went on to add that had Trump been a Democrat, he’d already have been impeached, and simultaneously seems to think his own impeachment failed (narrator’s voice: It didn’t).

“If it were a Democratic president and these facts were present,” Clinton said of the mostly factless Russia investigation, “most people I know in Washington believe impeachment hearings would have been done already.”

Of his own impeachment, Clinton added: “I knew it wouldn’t succeed.”

“It wasn’t a pleasant experience but it was a fight that I was glad to undertake,” he further stated. “I knew there was nothing impeachable and so we fought it to the end and I’m glad.”

Clinton was impeached on December 19, 1998, for perjury and obstruction of justice.
