Biden Left Hundreds Of Americans Behind In Afghanistan

President Joe Biden originally promised that the U.S. would “stay” in Afghanistan until every American was evacuated.

On Monday, Marine Corps Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr. announced that the last of the U.S. troops stationed at the Kabul airport had left.

And hundreds of Americans were left behind.

Those Americans are now dependent on the Taliban to get out of the country.

Gen. McKenzie: ‘We Did Not Get Everybody Out That We Wanted To Get Out’

This was the end of the military withdrawal from the country, even though hundreds of Americans who wanted to leave are likely still in Afghanistan.

Gen. McKenzie, the U.S. commander of CENTCOM (Central Command) said, “We did not get everybody out that we wanted to get out.”

U.S. general admits not every American or Afghan was able to evacuate Afghanistan: “We were not able to do that,” Gen. McKenzie says.

Biden Promised ‘If There’s American Citizens Left, We’re Gonna Stay To Get Them All Out’

During an interview on August 18, President Biden told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that the U.S. military would get “everyone” out of Afghanistan before the full withdrawal deadline, including Americans and Afghan allies and their families.

“That’s what we’re doing now, that’s the path we’re on. And I think we’ll get there,” Biden said. “If there’s American citizens left, we’re gonna stay to get them all out.”

Yet on Monday, a senior State Department official told Fox News that a “small number” of Americans remained in Afghanistan.

Fox News reported, “That official put the number of Americans at ‘below 250,’ adding that some additional Americans have departed Afghanistan in recent hours. The official added that the State Department also was committed to evacuating ‘those who worked with us,’ referring to Afghan partners.”

“The announced end of the withdrawal came less than a day before the official deadline agreed to by the Taliban, which was 3:29 p.m. ET Tuesday – 11:59 p.m,” Fox news reported. 

Fox News added, “The Taliban have said they will allow normal travel after the U.S. withdrawal, once they assume control of the airport.”

KTLA reports that Biden’s Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, said, “the U.S. will continue to try to get Americans and Afghans out of the country, and will work with Afghanistan’s neighbors to secure their departure either over land or by charter flight once the Kabul airport reopens.”

Last week, White House Jen Psaki took offense to a reporter saying some Americans were stranded in Afghanistan.

Fox News’ White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked, “Does the president have a sense that most of the criticism is not of leaving Afghanistan? It’s the way that he has ordered it to happen by pulling the troops before getting these Americans who are now stranded. Does he have a sense of that?” 

“I think it’s irresponsible to say Americans are stranded,” Psaki replied. “They are not.”

She added, “We are committed to bringing Americans who want to come home, home.”
