Biden Claims $3.5 Trillion ‘Build Back Better’ Plan Really Costs Zero Dollars

Joe Biden's Fuzzy Math Says $3.5 Trillion 'Build Back Better' Plan Really Costs Zero Dollars

In a tweet that has left many scratching their heads and rolling their eyes, President Joe Biden claimed that the $3.5 trillion “Build Back Better” reconciliation bill Democrats are trying to ram through Congress would “cost zero dollars.”

The bill, which would reach into virtually every aspect of American life, has been slammed by Republicans, and even some Democrats, who are squeamish about voting for something with such a high price tag.

Just take a look at Biden’s claim:

Now, to be fair to Biden and what are sure to be the hard-working fact-checkers of the mainstream media – maybe he really meant his agenda itself – rather than the current $3.5 trillion bill to implement the agenda – costs zero dollars.

Sure, we could play semantics like that – after all, “thinking don’t cost nothing.”

But surely anyone listening to Biden understands he is talking about his policies – specifically this centerpiece bill – which absolutely does, of course, cost money.

WaPo Reporter Echoes Biden Claim

While even some Democrat lawmakers are having trouble with the massive cost of the bill Washington Post reporter Catherine Rampell was echoing Biden’s absurd claim, saying that the cost of the $3.5 trillion bill is “misleading” and “could be zero.”

Rampell stated that it is her “number one priority” to challenge, what is according to her, a false narrative in the media that is inflating the cost of the bill.

“There are good ways to spend a huge sum of money. The kind of media coverage we have been getting doesn’t really explore whether the kinds of things that are in this bill are meritorious or not … Instead, it’s about the number.”

Stelter asked why the 3.5 trillion number was misleading. Rampell continued, (emphasis added):

The actual cost in terms of deficits will be smaller than that. Perhaps, even zero – although I think that is unlikely. And it’s not even fully spending, it’s not right to call it a $3.5 spending bill, because there’s probably about a trillion in tax cuts in there, too. So it’s really hard to boil down the essence of what this legislation is because it does so many things and because they’re still negotiating over the basic parameters.”

Biden and his teammates in the media seem to be employing the argument that the bill is “paid for,” and therefore “costs” nothing. In other words, there’s no new deficit spending in the bill, it’s all covered by taxes, so it doesn’t really cost anything.

Absolute, total malarkey.

Even if that were true, (a BIG if), the notion that your brand new roof “costs nothing” because you cleared out your savings account rather than charged it to your VISA is absurd. Ludicrous.

GOP Response

Republicans quickly took to social media to proclaim Biden’s tweet false.

Both Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), and the GOP House Judiciary both said simply, “This is a lie.”

Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) stated, “Simple math for President Biden: $3.5 trillion does NOT equal zero.” Tenney added, “I have to admit, I thought this was from a parody account when I first read it. It was disturbing to see it was actually from our President. He thinks he can spend an unprecedented $3.5 trillion and not add a penny to the debt? This is who is in charge? Scary.”

Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) said, “This is completely false. The largest spending spree in government history will cost ‘zero dollars’? That defies logic and basic math. Alongside massive tax increases, it will add trillions to the debt. Peddling false narratives won’t change those facts.”

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said simply, “Biden thinks his $3.5 trillion reckless spending plan ‘costs zero dollars’? He is very confused.”

Democrats Attempt To Transform America

For Joe Biden and the Democrats, the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill is an attempt by the Democrat Party to infiltrate virtually every aspect of American life, almost literally from birth to death.

Included are things like free Pre-K for 3 and 4-year olds, more childcare benefits, raising the childcare minimum wage to $15 an hour. Also, two free years of community college, with paid medical leave up to 12 weeks.

There would also be an expansion of Medicare benefits, including dental and vision benefits. Billions more for climate change, and infrastructure. There are also tax increases on corporations, which will ultimately filter down to working Americans.

The bill gives a massive amount of new power to the IRS as well. Talks are ongoing to set an amount at which banks would have to report deposits and withdrawals to automatically trigger a report to the IRS.

The House will vote on the measure on Thursday.
