Symone Sanders, a senior adviser to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, claims President Trump’s reference to coronavirus as the “Chinese virus” is a racial slur. But Fox News host Martha MacCallum wasn’t having it.
The President has repeatedly referred to the pandemic by it’s originating source, either the city of Wuhan itself or China, much to the ire of the easily triggered.
Sanders clearly falls into the category of easily triggered, accusing Trump of using a “racial slur.”
The Chinese Virus
In an interview with MacCallum, Biden’s campaign adviser criticized the administration for the number of coronavirus tests distributed thus far but added “some of” what the President had updated the nation on of late “was good.”
Sanders then somehow tossed in a racial jab.
“The reality is, he also stood at the podium and called the coronavirus, COVID-19, what I would suggest is a racial slur,” she said without any indication it was a joke.

Get Serious
Calling a virus that generated in China a “Chinese virus” is now a racial slur, people.
We’re sure those discussing German measles will be glad to know they’ve been racist all this time.
The 1918 influenza pandemic is very commonly referred to as the Spanish flu, also racist.
Countless diseases have been named for their point of origin. But because President Trump has done the same thing, it’s suddenly racist.
Thank you @marthamaccallum for correcting @SymoneDSanders on the origin of the #CoronavirusOutbreak. It came from China, period. It’s not racist to say #COVIDー19 pic.twitter.com/s0o6RVJ2Tt

MacCallum Fights Back
MacCallum was having none of this. While Sanders was simply trying to get her race-baiting talking point in for Biden’s radical base and wanted to move on, the Fox News host wasn’t about to let it slide.
“Why is it a racial slur?” MacCallum interjected. “To call it a Chinese virus when it originated in China. Why is that a problem?”
It’s not a problem. And Sanders knows it.
“It’s something that’s offensive to many Americans,” she claimed without evidence.
Really? Are there really that many people out there offended that the President is geographically correct in stating the origin of the Wuhan virus?
Sanders Gets a Lesson
MacCallum wouldn’t let up and gave Sanders a bit of a history lesson.
“Do you know why the MERS virus is called that?” the Fox News host asked. “Because it’s called the Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome, because that’s where it originated.”
She slammed Sanders and those on the left trying to generate a race controversy where there is none as “so counterproductive to what we are trying to do here.”

– Hong Kong Flu

MacCallum continued to rail against the non-controversy by gently explaining that nobody hear’s the phrase “Chinese virus” and is immediately angry at Asian-Americans.
Nobody.
“Every thinking human being who looks at this understands that the reference is to the origin of the virus and also the leadership in terms of how that virus was handled in the country of origin,” MacCallum said. “So I’m going to leave it there.”
“I mean, come on.”
It should be noted that Sanders, prior to being hired by the Biden campaign, once declared: “We don’t need white people leading the Democratic party right now.”
Which is actually a racist statement.
