In a new interview, President Obama has slammed the internet and social media, claiming that they, as left-wing outlet Vox put it, helped create “the single biggest threat to democracy.”
Speaking to the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg, the former Democrat President said that he was concerned about the growth of “conspiracy theories,” and the inability to “distinguish what’s true from what’s not.”
Obama Wants Government And Corporate Oversight
The former president didn’t mince words. While he doesn’t come right out and say it, to my reading, his intent is clear.
He wants things he agrees with to be publishable, and he wants things he disagrees with to be censored, banned, or otherwise silenced.
Obama tried to weave together a narrative that, essentially, there are two Americas with two sets of facts – generally, those on the right, and those on the left.
Of course, the freedom of social media and the internet is making this worse.
And wouldn’t you know it, it’s only one side speaking untruths.
Too many people are watching Fox News:
“If Fox News isn’t on every television in every barbershop and VFW hall, then it might be a Sinclair-owned station, and the presuppositions that exist there…” Obama said.
The media landscape is very different from the time when everyone got their news from one singular voice:
“We don’t have a Walter Cronkite describing the tragedy of Kennedy’s assassination but also saying to supporters and detractors alike of the Vietnam War that this is not going the way the generals and the White House are telling us. Without this common narrative, democracy becomes very tough.”
Speaking to how a guy named Barack Hussein Obama managed to win Iowa, Obama begins to let the mask slip:
“Part of the common narrative was a function of the three major networks and a handful of papers that were disproportionately influential.”
Now, there are so many people with their own opinions:
“You’re not going to eliminate the internet; you’re not going to eliminate the thousand stations on the air with niche viewerships designed for every political preference. Without this it becomes very difficult for us to tackle big things. It becomes hard for us to say, “Hey, we have a pandemic here; it’s deadly; it’s serious; let’s put partisanship aside…”
Obama tells Goldberg, “The First Amendment doesn’t require private companies to provide a platform for any view that is out there. At the end of the day, we’re going to have to find a combination of government regulations and corporate practices that address this, because it’s going to get worse. If you can perpetrate crazy lies and conspiracy theories just with texts, imagine what you can do when you can make it look like you or me saying anything on video.”
Starting to get the picture?
And who will be making these decisions about what is a “crazy lie” or a “conspiracy theory,” as opposed to Obama’s Truth?
Why, Big Tech companies and the federal government of course. Are either of those friends to conservatives?
What constitutes “fake news” will be determined by these people, not by a neutral arbiter of truth.
And who will be censored? Not them.
You and me, buddy. That’s who.
And of course we’re already seeing it. They can even do it to the President of the United States of America.

Limiting Information Has Always Been The Tool Of The Elites
We are, in fact, not entering into some epistemological crisis, as Obama said.
We are finally freeing ourselves from the shackle of a limited information flow.
Yes, it’s possible to be misled by the internet and social media, that is a given, but the positives are far more worth it.
Limiting information is how the elites have kept control for thousands of years.
There have always been counter-narratives that would question them, but they never got to see the light of day before.
Now, uncomfortable truths can finally be exposed to the masses.
This is why Obama, and left-wingers like him, hate the internet and social media – not because of a lack of truth, but because it’s not doing what he wants.
He wasn’t complaining in 2008 when it helped him get elected. He wasn’t complaining in 2011 when it kicked off the Arab Spring, which he supported.

Social Media Needs “Gatekeepers” To Prevent Conservatives From Spreading The Truth
They want to stop the spreading of real news, not fake news.
You can see this from the talking points that have already gone out now.
Watch below how leftists view freedom of information:
In the world of social media with no gatekeepers, @drvox says "misinformation wins".

And who do they want to gatekeep? Conservatives.
Watch below as Democrat Senator Blumenthal harangues Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg about conservative sites and figures like Breitbart, The Gateway Pundit, and members of the Trump family:

This is what they mean. “Fake news” to them is something they don’t want to hear.
Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are two fundamental keystones to a free society.
We know exactly who opposes those fundamental freedoms, and why.
