Last week, Caitlyn Jenner announced that she would be running for governor of California, with her goal being to take down Democrat Gavin Newsom. Now, former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has broken his silence to give his thoughts on Jenner running.

Schwarzenegger Discusses Jenner Running For Governor

In an interview with late night host Jimmy Kimmel on Monday night, Schwarzenegger described Jenner as a “good friend,” adding that she has just as much of a chance of winning as anyone else does.

“The key thing about all of this is it doesn’t matter if it’s Caitlyn or anyone else — to have a clear vision of where you want to go, what are the kind of changes you want to make and why are you qualified to become governor. That’s what you have to convince the people,” Schwarzenegger said.

“All the other stuff is all nonsense because the press will attack you no matter who you are. They attacked me but then, in the end, I won, so that was the main thing,” he added.

Schwarzenegger was governor of California from 2003 until 2011, with his time in the position coming to an end after a recall election.

Schwarzenegger Doubles Down

“Anyone has a chance because I think that the people are dissatisfied with what’s going on here in California,” Schwarzenegger continued, adding that whoever wins the race and becomes governor must fix “the mess we are in right now.”

“Just about everyone that is thinking about running has called me [for advice],” he said. “I’m very good friends with Caitlyn.”

“I have the utmost respect for her but I’m also very good friends with Governor Newsom and I’m good friends with all the other people that have contacted me and have asked me for advice about running or not running and all those kinds of things,” Schwarzenegger concluded.

As for now, Schwarzenegger is predicting that over 100 candidates will enter this race, so he feels that anything could happen in terms of outcome.

In announcing her run, Jenner sent a brutal message to the current governor as she vowed to “put an end to Gavin Newsom’s disastrous time as governor.”

“Californians want better and deserve better from their governor,” Jenner continued. “For too long, career politicians have over-promised and under-delivered. We need a leader with a vision and the resolve to see it through. This will be a campaign of solutions, providing a roadmap back to prosperity to turn this state around and finally clean up the damage Newsom has done to this state.”
