AOC Turns On Cuomo – Says He ‘Must Resign’

AOC Cuomo

On Friday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) became the latest Democrat lawmaker to turn on Governor Andrew Cuomo (D), saying that he “must resign” over the sexual misconduct claims that have been made against him by multiple women.

AOC Turns On Cuomo

“After two accounts of sexual assault, four accounts of harassment, the Attorney General’s investigation finding the Governor’s admin hid nursing home data from the legislature & public, we agree with the 55+ members of the New York State legislature that the Governor must resign,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a joint statement released by her and Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY).

The statement went on to say that the latest sexual misconduct claims raise “concerns about the present safety and well-being of the administration staff,” categorizing the allegations as “consistent and highly-detailed.”

“Unfortunately, the Governor is not only facing the accusative that he engaged in a pattern of sexual harassment and assault,” Ocasio-Cortez and Bowman wrote before citing the attorney general’s “extensive report … that found the Cuomo administration hid data on COVID-19 nursing home deaths from both the public and the state legislature.”

The two Democrats then said that they “believe these women, we believe the reporting, we believe the Attorney General, and we believe the fifty-five members of the New York State legislature, including the State Senate Majority Leader, who have concluded that Governor Cuomo can no longer effectively lead in the face of so many challenges.”

59 Democrats Call On Cuomo To Resign

This comes after over half of the New York State legislature called on Cuomo to resign at once. A total of 59 Democrat New York state lawmakers signed a letter on Thursday saying that Cuomo “has lost the confidence of the public and the state legislature, rendering him ineffective in this time of most urgent need.”

“We have a Lieutenant Governor who can step in and lead for the remainder of the term, and this is what is best for New Yorkers in this critical time,” they added. “It is time for Governor Cuomo to resign.”
