Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) said a phone call made by President Trump urging Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to recalculate the state’s votes in the 2020 election is an impeachable offense.
“I just want to find 11,780 votes which is one more than we have because we won the state,” in a phone call recorded by Raffensperger’s office and released by the Washington Post.

The Post initially published minutes-long clips from a one-hour conversation before later releasing the entire audio.
“All I want to do is this,” Trump said. “I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, because we won the state.”
Georgia certified election results showing Joe Biden won the state by 11,779 votes.
“We have won this election in Georgia based on all of this and there’s nothing wrong with saying that Brad,” the President claimed, though Raffensperger and his attorney repeatedly denied it was true.

“You should want to have an accurate election. And you’re a Republican,” Trump added, noting that Republican voters are furious with how the presidential election was conducted.
Mind boggling that @GaSecofState and his lawyers would secretly record and release a confidential settlement conference with the President. I have made open records requests to the Secretary of State which have never been acknowledged or answered. This is lawlessness.

AOC Insists This is an Impeachable Offense
Raffensperger, who makes Mitt Romney look like a principled conservative, disgracefully and secretly recording a settlement conference with the President should be the focus of the Georgia call, not Trump asking for election integrity.
The President has repeatedly insisted the Republican Secretary of State take steps to ensure the vote count in Georgia is accurate.
Instead, Democrats like AOC are insisting that what Trump said in the phone call was impeachable.
“I absolutely think it’s an impeachable offense, and if it was up to me, there would be articles on the floor quite quickly, but he, I mean, he is trying to — he is attacking our very election,” Ocasio-Cortez (NY) told reporters.

“He’s attacking our very election,” she added.
Remarkably, according to The Hill, AOC admitted, “She acknowledged that she hadn’t listened to the entire hourlong recording obtained by The Washington Post.”
It’s not unheard of for the New York socialist to speak definitively on a matter in which she has absolutely no knowledge. In fact, it’s her entire career summarized.
Is this the same AOC who was illegally running her campaign through a for-profit company? https://t.co/8fxzmZwj4Z

Defending Trump’s Call
Senator David Perdue, one of two Republicans in Georgia currently battling for survival in a tight runoff election, defended Trump amidst the leaked phone conversation.
Perdue said he was “shocked” that Raffensperger’s office would record a sitting president and leak it to the media.

“It’s disgusting in my view,” he said. “But what the president said is exactly what he’s been saying the last few months.”
And the full recording will show that @GaSecofState is still a hack, @realDonaldTrump is spot-on in his criticisms of the terrible job Raffensperger did, all of the officials running Georgia’s elections are trash, and @POTUS won the state. #MAGA https://t.co/uqdRTdqUhf

Aside from AOC determining the call amounted to an “impeachable offense,” other Democrats as they typically do, swarmed in denouncing the President and claiming what he did was illegal.

“It was certainly the voice of desperation,” Vice President-elect Kamala Harris said at a campaign event. “And it was a bald, bald-faced, bold abuse of power by the president of the United States.”
Rep Hank Johnson (D-GA) announced that he would introduce a motion in the House on Monday to censure Trump over the call.
“Tomorrow, I will introduce a resolution of Censure. Trump should resign NOW!” Johnson tweeted.

was far from “perfect.” In fact, it is a violation of state and federal law. Tomorrow, I will introduce a resolution of Censure. Trump should resign NOW! https://t.co/Jor1AmFDh0— Rep. Hank Johnson (@RepHankJohnson) January 3, 2021

Johnson is, of course, the same man who once claimed the island of Guam could capsize if too many people were on it.
This is who the Democrats have leading them – AOC and Hank Johnson – two of the more intellectually challenged lawmakers to ever set foot in Congress.
Perdue has called on Raffensperger to resign.
