AOC: Calling The Migrant Surge At The Border A ‘Surge’ Or ‘Invasion’ Promotes White Supremacy

AOC took issue with the border crisis being labeled a 'surge,' saying the term promotes a "militaristic frame" that is "a White supremacist idea-philosophy."

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) took issue with the border crisis being labeled a ‘surge,’ saying the term promotes a “militaristic frame” that is “a white supremacist idea.”

AOC, a far-left member of the ‘Squad,’ made the comments during a Tuesday night Instagram Live session with her followers.

“They wanna say, ‘But what about the surge?'” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Well, first of all, just gut check, stop. Anyone who’s using the term ‘surge’ around you consciously is trying to invoke a militaristic frame.”

The statement really demonstrates the socialist Democrat’s inability to grasp that certain words have multiple meanings.

Yes, a surge can be associated with military terminology, as it was often invoked during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. But it also, according to an Oxford definition, describes “a sudden powerful forward or upward movement, especially by a crowd.”

There is most definitely, by any stretch of the imagination, a crowd moving toward and across the southern border of the United States.

AOC Claims Using The Word ‘Surge’ Promotes White Supremacy

After suggesting the use of the word ‘surge’ at the border is meant to define migrants as “insurgents,” AOC proceeded to imply anyone using the term to promote the idea of an ‘invasion’ at the border is promoting white supremacy.

“And that’s a problem because this is not a surge, these are children and they are not insurgents and we are not being invaded, which by the way is a white supremacist idea-philosophy, the idea that if another is coming in the population that this is an invasion of who we are,” she claimed.

The segue into it being a racist term is typical for a member of the Democrat Party that simply finds a way to portray political opponents as racist at every turn.

Critics were quick to point out Ocasio-Cortez’s inability to understand the various definitions of words she managed to connect.

RealClearPolitics President Tom Bevan said, “Not knowing the difference between the meaning of ‘surge’ and ‘insurgent’ – and then using it as a talking point about white supremacy – is peak AOC.”

Townhall senior writer Julio Rosas tweeted, “I’ve been using the term ‘surge’ because there’s a higher than usual amount of people illegally crossing into the U.S. I’ve seen it with my own eyes on a nightly basis for the past week.”

Biden Called It A Surge

If using the term ‘surge’ is controversial, AOC may want to have a discussion with President Joe Biden.

During the third Democrat Primary debate, Biden used used the phrase “immediately surge to the border.”

What I would do as president is several more things, because things have changed. I would, in fact, make sure that there is — we immediately surge to the border. All those people who are seeking asylum, they deserve to be heard. That’s who we are. We’re a nation who says, if you want to flee, and you’re freeing oppression, you should come.

Biden’s comments appear to be referencing immigration lawyers or officials surging to the border in response to the asylum seekers.

Biden has since suggested migrants should not be surging at the border, yet even Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has admitted that the United States is on pace to see the most migrants breaching the border “in the last 20 years.”

Considering the level of the crisis, it’s surprising to see AOC actively running defense for the President by focusing on verbiage.

This is, after all, the same woman who engaged in a dramatic photo session at the border in 2018. The same woman who consistently claimed the very same facilities housing migrants were “concentration camps.”

“Funny how AOC raced down to [Texas] for the winter storm but she can’t be bothered to come down now to see what’s happening,” Rosas added.

AOC accused the previous administration of housing migrants in “concentration camps” associated with World War II.

Now she insists anybody describing the border crisis as a ‘surge’ is purposely creating a “militaristic frame.”
