Report: Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy To Possibly Retire On Monday

Earlier this year, President Donald Trump was able to elect a conservative to the Supreme Court in the form of Neil Gorsuch, who is more ideologically conservative than the man he replaced, the late Antonin Scalia.

Of course, he’s a great scholar of the law too. Prior to his confirmation, the American Bar Association gave Gorsuch their highest rating, stating that he was well qualified to serve on the High Court.

He’s hardly the only conservative that Trump will have the opportunity to appoint to the SCOTUS, because another judge is possibly heading for retirement. Today, Justice Anthony Kennedy could possibly announce his retirement. Here’s more:

The Supreme Court’s term ends next week with growing speculation that Justice Anthony Kennedy–the panel’s most pivotal member–may retire at age 80 after 29 years on the court.

Kennedy has played an important role as the court’s swing vote on many important rulings. His departure would allow conservatives to wrest near total control of the bench for the foreseeable future.

The justice has sided with his liberal colleagues on gay rights and abortion rights, as well as some cases involving race, the death penalty and the rights of people detained without charges at the Guantanamo Bay naval base. He has written all the court’s major gay-rights decisions, including the 2015 ruling that declared same-sex marriage is a constitutional right nationwide

Several of his former law clerks have said they think he is contemplating stepping down in the next year or so.

Rumors are also swirling about the retirement of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, though she claims she’ll stay on the court for “as long as she can.” Not to be too grim, but at the age of 84, she has an expected lifespan of another six years (according to the Social Security Administration’s actuarial tables), and a 34 percent chance of dying before Trump’s first term comes to a conclusion.

That opens up the possibility for a Supreme Court stacked with conservatives for decades to come. Given Trump’s first justice pick, I’m sure his next choices will be great.

  1. Do you suppose anyone can find a Supreme Court justice who believes in the original Constitution, before it was altered by activist judges to give personhood to corporations?

  2. if kennedy retires and trump places a good strong conservative in his place and then ginsburg croaks or retires we could have the making of a supreme court system that will actually function the way it was set up to function! the supreme court was set up by our founding fathers to base their rulings on 2 things and 2 things only. federal laws and the constitution, period nothing else it has been a long time since the supreme court was the court that our forefathers envisioned, but it is now with in our grasp to have a court system that works fairly for both parties. if obama had his way we would have ended up with the highest court in our nation nothing more then a copy of the 9th circuit court. the 9th bases its rulings on what is best for the liberal agenda. political agenda is not supposed to have anything to do with the rulings of our federal justice courts. that is why the 9th circuit court gets over turned 80% of the time. the 9th circuit court is nothing more then a kangaroo court set up by a banana republic dictator who wanted to make sure his political agenda always won against the opposition. if we can replace kennedy, ginsdburg and then remove all the corrupt justices from the 9th circuit court we could have the justice system that our forefathers faught and died to ensure we have!t j

  3. Would love to see several more of these liberal judges retire too such as Ginsburg & Breyer. Then wish Kagan & Sotomayor would resign and we might have a Supreme Court that adheres to the constitution!

    1. After one or two more SC appointments the democrats are going to drop dead from heart failure brought on by severe emotional distress and irritable bowel syndrome, they poop their guts out every time Trump makes the slightest move.If Trump accomplishes nothing else during his presidency just watching the dimo’s twitch, gag and squirm is well worth the price of admission.

  4. The major reason that Ginsberg should retire is because it is highly unethical (and stupid) for a Supreme Court Justice to publicly criticize the President. Goodbye, I hope.

  5. Ginsberg is an old confused wrinkled grape. She needs to be in a nursing home. Any judge that falls asleep in court needs to be thrown out. She is a disgrace! Old fart needs to either die or retire. Either way is fine. But she is not fit to serve in our Supreme Court.
